I have had my Jenday conure for over a year now. His name is Jelly, and though I care for him a lot I will have find him a new home unless someone knows how to help him overcome his behavior problems. Because of where I have lived, Jelly has gotten little experience with people outside of my own family. When I first got him he showed no signs of aggression to friends and visiting family, but now he will act viciously; hissing and snapping at the bars, and would definitely bite if they got too close. Other times, the visitor would not enter where his cage is, but I would bring him to them and he would act friendly and allow them to hold him, scratch him on the back of the neck, and even give him food. And all would seem well then suddenly for absolutely no reason, without any outside change in look, he would bite them. And this is very shocking, because I am really good at reading birds, and I can tell well off if a bird is showing friendliness or aggression; but Jelly shows no change, its just friendly-friendly-friendly-BITE! And since there is absolutely no consistency in his biting outsiders; the amount of time they handled him, or what they were doing when he bit them, I don’t know what to change to have him not bite people. Which makes it so I cant trust him with anyone outside my own family, which is not good, since I just took a job as a nanny and I'm the only family he knows their. And with the kids it just isn't good. So I could really use some help! Please, if you have any suggestions I would be most willing to try them, I have tried "the wobble" which I have read works best for biting, no, sorry on the off chance Jelly bites me, "the wobble" only makes him bite harder so as he can maintain his balance, so I don’t recommend it to the people who sadly get bitten by him, because it would cause them more pain. =( IP: Logged |
