hi! i am a dog owner/lover of all pets. We have 2 dogs and one cat. we rescued all of them but one, we bought the other from a pet shop. well, as strange as it sounds, my mom was mowing the lawn when all of a sudden, a cockatiel landed on her head, in a cry for help. She took him in and fed him, and now, linguinie (its temporary name) is with my at my aunts house. he was starving when we found him, he ate for a long long time. he is in a cage right now, and my mom put an add in the paper about a missing bird, and we are gonna put flyers up at the pound, pet shops, and a vets office. If we don't find the owner, my cousin is going to keep it, unless she is unable to, then i will. i just want to know some things about them, like quirks, how they like to bathe, what toys they like, and anything special that they will need. it is really an amazing story of how we came to know this little bird!
We named it linguinie because we thought it was a good name for if it was a boy or girl, it has some grey, and yello on its face, then orange on the side of its face, it is mostly grey, with little white ovals on each wing. could you tell me if it is male or female??? thanks a whole lot!

Hey their cool story. Well you can tell if its a girl or a boy by looking at the colour is it really bright or grey and light yellow and are the cheeks dark red or are they orane? If the cockatiel is all bright dark yellow and red cheeks then its a boy if its all light colours then its a girl. It really dosnt matter boys do hiss more and talk more. They love toys but remember they love breaking them too. They love showers with the person and afterwards they love having the blow dryer on them lightly ofcourse! You'll want to keep it away from drafts - that's the most important thing. Sometimes they will bathe in their drinking water. Mine loves to take showers with me. They sell perches that suction to the shower tiles so you can keep them out of the direct water spray. Cockatiels are friendly little critters. If you have it out of the cage much you should clip its wings so it doesn't escape from you! Feed it good quality seed from a reputable pet store - not the grocery store.

Wow! Thats odd because I had an annoying cocateil who screached a lot. Any way my idiot brother walked outside with the cocatiel on his shoulder, without knowing it, and the cocatiel flew away! And we never saw him again .. But I live in pensylvannia, so I'm not sure!

The new addition will require more attention than a cat or a dog so that might be a major adjustment to you. I'm very fond of mine. You should do great if you enjoy spending time with the little bugger. Hopefully your cousin or niece I forgot which will have plenty of time for the bird they are bloody handfuls sometimes lol but by far more compassionate than a cat and smarter than most dogs :-) Hope that helps.
