I am going to see a puppy!

Well tonight I am going to see a puppy, she is a maltese crossed with shih tzu (the mom is the shih tzu, i read somewhere that the pups usually take after the mother more in looks and personality, is it true?) I am really excited! I was talking to a really good shih tzu breeder but the only thing is that she's got four people before me that get to pick a pup and the deposit is non refundable. Well if anyone knows anything on this mix it would be greatly appreciated! And I will let you guys know how everything goes!!! Pup can't come home til Oct 22

I don't neccesarily agree with the pups looking more like the Mom. I think it can go either way.
Our Molly (Bichon Mom, Shih Tzu dad) takes more after her Dad. Her Mom was white with a longer muzzle, and Molly has the Shih tzu color markings with a shorter muzzle....but has the fluffier Bichon hair.
One of her brothers was all gold with a black mask....very Shih Tzu looking, while the other brother looked more like her. She had a sister that only had half the Shih Tzu mask on the face.
Molly has one white streak on one ear...a Bichon throw in???
But, I have seen other pups from the same breeder who did take after their Mom, mostly white with some marking.
Anyway, I think it can go either way.

Thanks for the reply Molly's mom, I am really excited I just have another hour to go til I can see the pups! Molly is a really cutie! Do you think it is weird that the breeder said that her dogs will be put in their crates when i come because they can be really possesive of the babies? Also this is the third time this mom is being bred is that okay?

i'm in the process right now of trying to find a maltese breeder, still. sat down for a good hour calling people, you wouldn't believe some of the people i talked to! Rolling Eyes

it really is a shame. there were puppy brokers, people that said they didn't know where the parents were (wait, so how did you get the puppies??) and one lady who didn't even know what a contract was or what a health guarantee was, and asked me what hereditary defects meant! when i explained everything to her, her reply was, "well now why would i do that?? that's not my problem!" Eh?

i can't believe it. there's only the extremes here, completely uneducated backyard breeders trying to make big bucks off a highly demanded breed, and then the only other extreme is show dogs with occasional litters for as much as $3000! Shocked

there's just no middle ground of good responsible breeders with healthy puppies, it's either the lowest standard or the highest. if i really want a maltese it looks like i have some more saving to do!

Some dogs do get possesive over their puppies. I would make sure you see the parents as long as you are there. it will give you a good idea on their health, have her walk them around make sure they are not limping or have strange things going on with the bodies. If so run for your life. Also, if their temperment is bad so could the puppies.
