Hi there Pit fans. I am Riverside Area Dachshund Rescue but have agreed to take into my foster an unwanted 7 week old pit puppy. He is papered but we want him to be a pet only. I have pictures and he is very cute and sweet. His life started out with much sorrow but we are hoping to change that with your help. Please pass the word to anyone in So Cal. looking for a pup. We call him Jake and he is solid brindle. He has scabs on all his elbows from being put outside to live on some bricks at just days old but we are working on softening them up. Jake really needs a chance to be the companion dog he was meant to be so any help is appreciated. He is in Southern Ca. No shipping. Approved application required.

I dont know anything about PB, but there are a lot of rescue orgs in S. Calif that may be able to find him a home

CA is overflowing with APBTs, so you'll want to get the word out about him in as many good places as possible. You might try listing him on the online rescue pit bull listing http://www.prbc.net , and here's a rescue located in the Bay area (I believe that's in So. Cal.?) that may be able to list him (with you as his contact of course) on their site as well http://www.badrap.org . Thank you for helping him out, despite the fact that he's not "your" breed Smile

Thanks but the Bay area is Northern Ca. and the other link did not work. I do fear I will never find a home for this baby. He is a far cry from a Doxie. He will require an experienced owner that has love and compassion. I will keep looking. Thanks for trying.

Thank you very much! I use doxiresq@verizon.net I have tried to post him on several others and I am getting flack for him being unaltered at 7 1/2 weeks. My vet won't even do it this young. I will be adopting him only to highly proven and responsible owners and even setting up his neuter appt. with the Vet of their choice when he reaches 6 months. I don't adopt dogs out and then never look back. I have an open door policy and a mandatory return policy to my rescue should it ever not work out. I have saved countless dogs and even helped to shut down two major puppy mills in the last year having to place over 40 dogs in a very short time to keep them out of cages in the "system" I hate having to prove myself all the time and be admonished by those who "know everything" Jake was being kept on a pile of bricks in the sun at 5 weeks and now he loafs on the sofa in the air conditioning or wades in a kiddy pool in the yard and plays with toys for the first time. The last gal said to me finding him a permanent home right now should not even an option! OK, I guess he will go live at her house... LOL Anyway thanks for all your wonderful help.

I understand how it would feel to have someone jump on you when you were only trying to help, but I can also see the concern from the people who have done so. Pit bulls seem to attract some of the lowest forms of scum, and some are quite eloquent and seemingly good owners, enough to fool even the most savvy of rescuers. Having the dog fixed before adoption will generally at least thwart people who are looking for cheap breeding stock, or who later decide their dog is just SO wonderful they'd like 15 more just like him. Of course, in a perfect world, pre-adoption screens would weed out these people, but while still important, even they have flaws. So, while I can see your frustration at the responses you've received, keep in mind that these people probably do have the best interest of the breed- as well as your pup- in mind.

If a vet could be found in your area that would neuter such a young pup (and at a reasonable price), would you be willing to do so before adopting him out? Or would you just rather not neuter at such a young age? Either way I understand, just wondering if it would be worth looking into, as I know pediatric spay/neuter is becoming more and more commonplace.

I'm crossposting your post to several other boards now, hopefully it'll help.

It seems I just may need to keep him longer as everyone is sure he will end up as a breeder. My Vet will not neuter one so young but I can ask just how young he feels is safe. I would rather he be neutered but it's not a perfect world and all I can do is the best. It all depends on the adopter and of course I will be careful.
