Finally: pictures Very Happy Kyrre is doing really well as an outdoor cat, he comes home when I call for him, and is always inside during the night. Sometimes he'll even meow at the door to get out, and when I open the door he just takes a sniff of fresh air, then goes back to the couch Mr. Green

Thanks Very Happy It's really fun to be outside with him, he is so happy and full of energy Very Happy

Chezza: have you tried walking him on a leash and harness? I did that to Kyrre the first couple of times, and even though he didn't tolerate the harness when I put it on inside, he forgot all about it as soon as we got outside...

Kyrre looks very happy and must love climbing trees.

I've actually been letting Mittens and Socks out a little again, too. Mittens loves it. She's been pretty good so far and has stayed close to the patio area. I hope it stays that way. Socks was never a problem. She always stayed close to home.

I've always kept my guys inside... I had a small fenced in yard once and Patches loved going out and laying in the flowers or in the shade in the grass but she never jumped the fence.... she "can't" climb or she just never wanted to I guess.. when she was little I discouraged the behavior.

Now that I live right next to a semi major road that always has traffic on it I only let them out on the patio that has latis on it and Patches lays in the sun. Harley can be out there but semi supervised when he jumps over he comes in and is banned from going back out. Sometimes is is really good and stays but sometimes not...... guess it depends on what is flying around and what gets his attention. I have to peek out about every 5-10 mins to see what he's doing...

Well I did it, I let Jay out this morning ...

"Am I Bad" Sad Sad

He Loved it, he rolled and rolled, he was dying to get out Confused
I saw him and watched him jump the fence...And waited inside..
He was gone bout an hour..But came back to the back door, so I let him in. He munched on his biscuits then meowed to go back out again.. I let him out again..And he was gone for bout another hour or two..Then came back, came in, and I said Thats it "Chump" lol.. In for the arvo and night..

He seemed quite content and happy with that..
See how it goes..He is on Probation lol.. Laughing Laughing

No your not Bad!! Chezza Jay is happy and he is content again. Isn't that what we want for our babies...... We want them to be happy we want them to be safe.... We just have to "control" their trips outside.... Keep them inside at night that is when most fighting goes on. Keep calling them and having them come inside praise them for coming home.

Your doing a good thing for Jay.

Hi Chezza. No, you're not bad. It's hard to get an indoor/outdoor cat to remain content inside only. It can be done, but it's tough. Just be aware that he will probably get into more cat fights, meaning there is a good chance he may develop more wounds/abcesses so more trips to the vet. There are also other dangers outside. Some people think quality of life is more important.

For myself, I would love to let our cats out, but in this area there are way too many coyotes that love to feast on cats. So, they need to stay inside. I already lost two cats to coyotes. That was pretty hard. I've also had quite a few neighbors lose their cats to the coyotes here.

Some people are fortunate to live in areas where there is little risk to letting their cats out. My wife has family on the East coast. They have tons of land, no roads nearby and no wildlife to harm their cats. So, they are pretty fortunate to have a few cats that have lived to old age without any trouble. It would be nice to raise our cats in an area like that.
