I am re-posting a message from a new member, Envoysmom. She needs help preparing for their first kitty!

Quote:
Hi! I'm new here. We have just adopted our very first kitten. His name is Envoy (he was found in the wheel well of an Envoy) and he is just the sweetest little guy. He's between 4-6 mos old and loves to be cuddled and petted. We have always had dogs and in June we had to put our beloved beagle Chester to sleep. At first I was adamant about no more pets but the house just doesn't seem the same without a fur face around. Well, my daughter has always wanted a cat, so we went to our vets and we immediately fell in love with Envoy. We will be bringing him home next Thursday. Since we are new to the world of cats just wondering if you have advice about what to expect. We have already gotten him a two-tiered scratching post and other toys to play with. I will keep you posted how things go!

and welcome Envoysmom! I'm so sorry about Chester. Sad Congrats on the adoption of Envoy! I'm sure lots of people here would have tons of advice for you. Have you kitty proofed your home yet? If you have plants or flowers, some of them may be toxic to kitties. Grape tomatoes, lillies, even moss (choking hazard, my Rene ate some and was puking scarlet blood). Do not leave string toys and other small mice toys or household items unattended. Some cats have a tendency to swallow them. Monty swallowed a string and well, cough, hubby pulled it out of his rear end and he had some intestinal burn from it. Shocked Premium foods is highly recommended although not all cats adjust to it. Good luck and have lots of fun!
