Last night I let the boys out for a final run before bed. Freckles likes to exit the deck by hugging the wall and passing under and between a round plastic single post table that usually supports potted plants. Currently, thank goodness, that table was empty.
Just as Freckles passed under the table, he either stepped on a toad or the toad jumped, but whatever happened, Freckles leaped straight up into the air, smashing into the bottom of the table. That sent the table flying off the deck and Freckles leaping out into the yard. He ran half way across the yard before stopping and looking back to see, I guess, if that toad might be chasing him. The look on his face was a mix of pure terror and puzzlement.
In the meantime, Duke, for all his fake bravado, had headed in the opposite direction wanting nothing to do with whatever spooked Freckles, and neither had any desire, at that moment, to join me back on the deck.
The toad, unscathed, seem oblivious to everything and was happy to hop along looking for bugs.
Now how safe would feel with Duke and Freckles guarding your home? Laughing
