My kitten is now about 5 months old, I got him from an animal shelter. He has been neutered and all his shots. I also have another cat that is about two years old now...I got her also from an animal shelter and she has been spayed. There are two litter boxes and I clean them twice a day.
My problem is the kitten, Koda, has started regularly peeing on the beds. When he was first brought home he was sick with the respiratory virus cats get in shelters and he peed one time then. I took him to the vet, he had medicine and he recovered just fine. That was 3-4 months ago.
For some reason he has begun to pee on my beds regularly now. I don't know what to do, but I know this cannot continue.
Pls give me some ideas....I don't want to have to give him up. Thanks... |

I had the same problem, so i just didnt allow my kitten in the bedroom and i always kept the door shut. I suggest you do the same, if the door is closed he cant go in there and pee. Now my kitten only goes in the litterbox since going on the bed is no longer an option. goodluck with your kitten. |

Hi. I would take him to the vet and have them rule out a UTI (urinary tract infection) or other medical problems. Cats with a UTI will urinate outside of their litter box as they associate it with pain (UTIs are painful). If the vet says he is in perfect health and tested negative for a UTI, then it's a behavioral issue and that can also be resolved at home. I wish your kitty all the best and hope that it's something as simple as a UTI. |

Hey.
I had the same problem with my kitty Sierra. I thought for sure something was wrong with her because she was peeing on everything. I took her to the vet and she was perfectly healthy. Come of find out, she just has expensive tastes.
Alot of times, when you use a litter that doesnt feel right on their paws, the cat wont use it. For instance, I got some cheaper litter because I couldn't afford the other stuff, and Sierra pretty much refused to use the box. But as soon as I got the other stuff, she didnt have a problem.
Also, if the food and box are too close together, they wont use it. They wont go where they eat. I have the wall of the cloest seperating my kitties food and bathroom.
So, with that in mind, have your kitty checked out. I wouldn't doubt if it was a UTI since it came from a shelter. If not, may have to do some experimenting.
But great to hear you saved a pet's life! |

we had that issue - and it wasn't a UTI and it wasn't the litter - she was just like that becasue the BF wasn't around (she was originally his cat - but he was home maybe 4-5 hours a day)... then when I started spending more time she eventually stopped. We locked her out of the bedrooms, but then she just went to the couches... pain in the butt.
Since we moved she has stopped and when she pulls a fit pees downstairs on the cement floor - easier to clean at least.
Remember to buy the pee smell remover stuff from the pet store to get rid of the scent properly! |
