For the most part, JD's are like other large cichlids.
Males get around 10" while females can get around 8". Some say 55 is fine for a pair, but I personally would never do that. I'd go with at least a 75. Males only have color on the upper part of their gill plate while on females the color goes all the way to the bottom.
I think in terms of temperment, they're similar to oscars, but maybe just slightly more aggressive. I also think they can be a little shy so they would appreciate a little cover like some big fake plants and a large pot.
A good quality pellet should be just fine for food and you can suppliment their diet with insects.

More aggressive than an Oscar.
Wow i knew that they were aggresive but i didnt think they were that aggressive.
Also could JD's actually live peacefully with Giant Danios. |

Sorry, just a couple more questions.
What are the chances of a male and female breeding often.
I heard they are easy to breed but will they breed often. And will they eat the fry if left in the tank.
What are some ways of sexing young JD's.
The LFS I go to is good but I dont think they will know what ones are male or female. |

Actually, oscars are some of the least aggressive of the larger cichlids so JD's really aren't hyper aggressive like a red devil, for example.
Looky what I found:
