| Our new dog gets car-sick and we will be in the car for about 8 hours on Thursday night. Is there anything I can give him? Someone suggested dramamine. Thanks! |

| Better check with your Vet as to using Dramamine. My first Lab, as a puppy, would get car sick before we reached the end of the driveway. We tried a prescribed sedative once but he threw it up. He eventually outgrew the problem. If you do use a drug, administer it in advance so that it is working before you begin the trip. |

Thanks. I did call the vet but I had to leave her a message. |

| Animal Essentials has a line called Animal Apawthecary that I use alot. One of them is Ginger-Mint drops. I even used them on my husband, he didn't know until he asked me what I had given him, lol...it works really well. I give Witt (70lbs) two droppers full. Shawn my husband got 4 droppers full. It's all natural. About $10 for a bottle. |

| It also depends whether the dog is getting sick from the motion or from fear. If it is a fear issue, it can be worked with. |

I had a dog that got carsick....couldn't even back out of the driveway before she upchucked. Car smelled so bad my son started to get carsick.
I started backing the car up, park on the street and take Sadie for a walk. When she could get a little further (like the neighbor's driveway) I'd park the car, take her for a walk.
Next time a little further. Each time she'd get further and further....then we could get to the swimming hole. She'd go swimming, we'd go home.
Eventually she started to equate rides meaning something fun - swimming, walks, hiking.
Took the entire summer but we finally managed to help her get beyond the car sicknesses.
I also had an SUV at that time. In self defense I had to get rid of it (the smell....oh that smell from multiple vomiting sessions from her and my son). Once I got a car she was fine. I think it had something to do with her sitting up that high. |

Several years back the vet I took the fur kin to suggested Baby Benadryl -- 1 mg per pound. Worked great.
I have also found most dogs get over being carsick as they grow older. |
