Ande95 - I noticed your Shihpoo has his/her tail. I am a little sad. My puppy's (Emma) tail was snipped when she was born. As I bought her in at a pet store (I know, I know bad idea) I did not have a say in the matter. I wonder why they snip the tail. All she has left is about 2 inches. I feel so bad for her, but I doesn't seem to hurt her when I touch it.
Does any one know why they do this? |

With some breeds of dogs its in their breed standard to have a docked tail (for showing) while some owners do it for purely cosmetic reasons and others do it as a precautionary measure (like with soem breeds of working dogs).
They do tail docking in poodles, that's probably why they docked your dogs tail but I've never seen a Shih Tzu with a docked tail. |

Hi Ande,
Your shihpoo is toooooo cute!!! He really resembles my little fella when he was a baby.... awww makes me want another one
Here are some pics of my shihpoo as a puppy! (He's now 2 years old) On a side note... He was SOLID black and white, until about 6 months of age... then his black turned to a charcoally color, except for his ears that are a little darker I hear that shihtzu/poodle mixes are known for their color changing, so don't be surprised if the same happens with your little fella
