Hey guys,
I have a quick question about a disease I need naming, my tuxedo platty currantly has some form of a disease, this disease caused it to have an arched back and the bottom area around the stomach curves with the arch of the back, I know it is some form of a disease but I couldnt quite put my finger on it. I had a zebra danio die a few weeks ago due to the same cause, currently all the levels are equal and the tank is far from over stocked.

thanks,
Lauren.

Thanks, but im sure that is not the issue, ive been breeding platties for a few years now, though i know this one was not pregnant nor had any signs of any future pregnancy. As well, my male zebra danio had this disease, so i believe it is linked somehow to that.

What you're describing sounds like tuberculosis. Zebra danios are particulary susceptible. I haven't ever heard of it being treated successfully...perhaps others will have better information on that.

I agree, sounds like it could be fish tb or maybe a tumor.

And be careful because although cases are fairly rare, fish tb is transferrable to humans (not the same as human tb, though).

Hi OneWolvesDream, It's been a long time since we heard from you. Welcome back! Are you running an under gravel filter in that tank? UG filters are bad about developing Mycobacterium under the gravel.

Transferable to humans? In what way? Also how does it effect humans? kc5gvn: Nice to hear from you too, it has been awhile, no i am not using an underground filter, i decided not to apon the choice of doing sand in the fishtank, ive replaced my 30 gal. with sand, the fish seem to enjoy it more, so i am using an internal filter, i am not currently sure of the name but ill check when i have a chance and let you know.

Thanks to all of those who helped. One more question....does anybody know of any chemicals i might be able to try? even though it has not been cured that is known of i would still like to try. thanks all!
