How come my bird won't come out the cage after 2 years?

What kind of a bird??? He could still be scared if you have never proven to him that your hand is OK.. your not a bad owner as long as your providing enough food, water and love for your bird.. but you may not be doing the right thing to get the results your looking for
just dont feel bad there are a lot of birds that never get tame.unles you have a parrot or something like that....
just keep on it! its a hard thing that ive learned but NEVER give up heehe

I agree totally with drab911.

I would suggest having him wing clipped this will help the training process easier on you both.

Wing clipping is not cruel and does not hurt the bird in anyway aslong as it is done correctly this should only be done by someone that has clipped wings before, a breeder or avian vet will do this for you, The feathers clipped will grow back in with the next molt during this time the bird depends on you to get it around.

They can still fly but just can not get the height so this makes catching them easier.

Never grab your bird always allow him to come to you in his own time.
This is done by just holding your hand inside the cage but not to close to the bird does this a few times a day getting close to the bird each time.

If the bird panics and flaps around the cage hold your hand still until the bird is calm then try again, At all times talk softly and calmly to him this will teach him you do not wish to hurt him.

If he has some favourite fruit or vegtable or even if he likes millt have this in your hand as this helps form trust.

Once he has learnt to trust your hand simply press your finger gently against his chest and say step up him will associate step up with stepping on your finger, When he does this praise him by saying goodboy.

After he gets used to sitting on your hand you can try taking your hand out of the cage with the bird on your hand if he flys off wait and try again.

Time patience and trust is all thats needed.

You are not a bad owner so never feel bad if he never becomes tame as some birds just never do.
