Help with breeding black convicts please

Hi, I have 3 black convict fish and a 13 inch alge eating fish in a 55g aquarium, my problem is a weird one. I have 2 females and 1 male and the females have paired up and are laying eggs together in their makeshift cave but not letting the male around. Is this unusual? I know they are the females becuase they both have orange on their bellies and the male doesn't. Plus they have both been laying eggs for 2 weeks but no fry yet. Should I seperate them or what? Any help would be great.

haha that is quite weird. i have heard of convicts doing this before, but its not the most common thing to come across. if you want your convicts to breed then go ahead and try to seperate one of the females.

IT is not very common but not rare, I have seen this behavior taking place with some of convict pairs, the females are highly protective and in some cases like yours, chases the male or vice versa. However, I think it wouldn't hurt to separtate them to avoid fighting.
