In response to your biting gerbils, it can be very disheartening. By handling them a lot more, you may be able to break their habit of biting. (Did they bite hard and draw blood? or just a warning type bite?)Offer treats like plain cheerios or sunflower seeds from your hand at least daily, and maybe they will come to associate your hand as a good thing.
I now raise my own gerbils so that they are tame and very friendly, unlike most pet shop gerbils. All gerbils have the capability to be wonderful pets, but hand taming them from day one works best. oo! Silenced
