hey everyone, do you guys ever give celery to your birds, i realize it probably isnt the best nutricional food but my birds havnt ever eaten veggies yet.. so I put a stick of celery in there and 2 of my birds LOVE to pull the strands down.. i figure its a good start to the rest,,, but is this safe for them?? can they choke on the strands?? I am watching them closly and it looks ok so far

Only one of my budgies likes celery so they don't get it that often.

I don't think it would be a choking hazard (atleast for mine) because my budgie just nibbles on the fibres and never really tries to swallow them.

My budgies now just stop when they're full but one of my budgies I had before would just keep eating anything you put in her cage. I don't think it would be bad for them because fruits and veggies are composed of a lot of water.

I agree with aqeous, I was about to post the same thing, but you beat me to it, IMO celery has too much water.

Any vegtables that contains alot of water should only be given once in awhile as this can cause diarreah and birds become dehydrated very quickly.

I give my cockatiels celery 2-3 times per week along with other fruits and veggies but leaving a couple of days inbetween.
