Hey all, my baby budgies are getting so big, so fast! I have one that is the traditional bright green with the yellow head, one that is a lightish blue with it seems to be a white head, and one that is all gray and black....these 3 are pretty much fully feathered and the youngest one I think is going to be a light yellow (maybe a wierd shade of green) with a bit of blue on the legs. These are all being raised by one hen since the other hen didn't take to her babies Sad (thankfully the other hen did) Smile
I've got them banded so I know who is from what parent. The parents are colored as follows: Bright green body w/ yellow head (hen) Light blue (almost looks gray sometimes) with a tid bid of yellow on it's head (male)
the second pair is: Bright blue body w/ yellow head (male) Light green body with a yellow greenish head (hen) Is there some kind of sight that would show me all the color varieties budgies come in? Or a site where I could see a pic of a gray one so I can compare? Also, has anyone ever seen a gray budgie? I've only heard of them and not seen one. How common are the gray colored ones? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I can see I will have to go cage shopping with my next paycheck....I love all these colors I've got!! Thanks!! Smile

Hey mike, thanks for the info on the website. I took a pic of the baby bird with my camera...so it's not the best pic, but it will give you an idea. How common are the gray ones? A woman that breeds budgies told my mother that green is a dominent color so about 3 out of 4 babies will most likely be green. Is this true? I was just curious because of 4 babies I only got 1 green, and with the last clutch I had one green, and one blue. Maybe my budgies aren't normal, none of my pets are!! Mr. Green
Oh...Also I don't know how to post pics on here, so if you'd like to see the baby I can e-mail you the pic. Thanks again!

Hi grays are not very common, In all my time breeding budgies i have only ever had 2 gray babies.

Green is supposed to be the dominant colour but i have bred to greens and got lutino babies aswell as pieds.

I think its al depends on the bloodline if you have a bloodline that only produces greens then this is a dominant line but since being domesticated different colours have been bred together to get different colour mutations so this has diluted the greens.

Yeah you can email me the picture if you like my email address is

Are all those your birds Kathy they are lovely coloured.

One of my grays like your willow changed colour on me when he got older but his sister stayed the normal gray colour.

my tradional green, yellow and black produced 3 chicks. Two traditional and a trye grey. I had a blue hen at the same time and after doing some checking was totally suprised to find that it was not common but somewhat rare. Unfortuately the little one only lived for 7 years.

Hi Kathy, your birds are beautiful! Thanks for letting me see those pics.
The parents of my little gray baby is a traditional green with a yellow head with the little black markings on the wings (hen) and the male is very light in color....maybe a bluish, it kinda looks like a dirty white color with a hint of gray, so I believe that's where my gray baby comes in Smile Yes I just now noticed this. LOL. I'm only human!!! Laughing
(that was the only baby that survived from that clutch, they were raised by my other hen. She was a first time mom and didn't care for them)
But now they are determined to have their family and she's got 3 babies with full crops now. The first is just about a week old now. So we'll see what colors we get out of this clutch.
