|
|
I JUST PURCHASED A QUAKER PARROT FROM A ANIMAL AUCTION ONLY TO FIND THAT THE BIRDS LOWER BEAK IS SPLIT INTO. IMEAN COMPLETELY SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE! IT DOESN'T SEEM TO AFFECT HIS EATING OR USING HIS BEAK TO CLIMB BUT HIS UPPER BEAK CAUSES THE LOWER TO SPLIT ON EITHER SIDE WHEN IT IS CLOSED! CAN IT BE REPAIRED? CAN I EXPECT HIM TO STARVE TO DEATH? I'M SURE IT IS WHY I WAS ABLE TO BUY THIS BIRD WITH CAGE FOR $35.00.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO!
THANKS, ALAN |

| Hi I'm kind of new with the whole bird thing and I've never had a parrot but I would think if it isn't affecting the bird and he isn't in pain he would be okay but if it is fixable you could consider it. I would wait for Mike's (charmedagain) reply because he is the expert on this board. I'm probably no help but good luck, hope you figure something out. |

Hi and congratulations on your new parrot.
If the upper part of the beak is causing the lower part to split i would recommend a trip to an avian vet as the upper part is too large and may need clipping down.
If this is left too long it could cause serious problems resulting in the loss of the lower part of the beak therefor resulting in the bird starving to death.
Birds need there lower part of the beak to help husk seeds and chew things so its best to have the bird checked over ASAP.
Let us know how he is getting on
