help on weaning?/ Babies/ Eggs

hey for the past week my bird has laid 2 eggs and still waiting for more, but the bird hasnt been sitting on it, shes ignoring it i think i havent seen her lay on them after she had the second one at all she doesnt even pay any attention to them?should i take them out? or not? can i help if place a heated light on them at all? does that help or no? what is weaning? do i do that or the mother? how would i do that? can i have some intructions just in case?

Hi Jenn What species of bird do you have?

Leave the eggs with her, some birds do not start sitting on there eggs until 2nd or 3rd egg has been laid some do not start incubating until most of there clutch has been laid. Unless you have a brooder and have experience dealing with eggs this way i would not suggest you attempting it as it can have a serious effect on the developing embryo's

Removing the eggs will only promote her to lay more eggs to replace the eggs taken and this can have fatal concequences on the female.

Weaning is a process that baby birds go through where they start to try eating on there own.

A simple way to do this is offer them millet spray since this is soft its easier for the chicks to husk.

What i do is put a dish of EMP egg food on the cage floor and i alos hang millet spray in the cage.

Once you see the chicks are eating and drinking on there own which is usually at around 8weeks of age some its earlier they can then be put in there own cage.

Until the chicks are weaned the parents will keep feeding them.

Make sure your female has plenty of cuttlefish bone and mineral block in the cage since she is laying eggs she will need it more now.
