hey everyone, i just recently joined.
I have a question and hopefully someone can answer it for me.
I recently purchased a pit bull and i was wondering if im able to get papers for her. The mother of my pup is a registered dog while the father is not registered. I have been told that to get papers for the dogs both parents would have to be registered. If someone could help me out i would appreciate it!

I do believe that both parents must be registered to register the pup, UKC and ADBA anyways. There may be some smaller, less recognized registries that don't, but wouldn't be as reputable as those.
We'd love to see pictures of her!! |

| She sure is right, should have got from a real breeder who would have supplied you with paper and pedigree. You can still ask for a copy of the dams pedigree so at least you'll have that information. I wouldn't worry to much now about getting papers. |

| it really doesn't bother me that she doesn't have papers.... i mean i love the pit bull breed and this is my first actual own pit bull, just wondering if their where any possibilities. But thanks everyone for your help. |

| That site can't get you a pedigree, it can just get you a piece of paper with your dogs name, age, color, DOB so its basically pointless. |

Registering with them is a waste of money. Get the dam's pedigree from the breeder, and if he has the sire's (even though he's not registered) get that too. Then you'll know how your dog is bred. All "papers" are is a piece of paper that tells you that you own your dog. I'm not wasting my money with registries anymore. |

Yeah but without knowing that you have a dog who you can trace back to other purebred dogs, then this site is pointless.
How about you send me the money and I will call myself the APBTRA (American PitBull Terrier Registry of America) and I will send you a piece of paper that says you own your dog, it name and date of birth. I will judge wether or not its a pitbull based on a photo you send me. (Im not that particular anyway) |

Well i have a really stupid question or three i should say
Why did they ever come up with papers then?
How did the first breeders ever start or even get there dogs recognized with out papers of some sort?
Dont your dogs have to be regitered to even try to start breeding, as in sure's situation....if you only had one dogs pedigree and not the others but you wanted to breed that dog with another shouldnt that dog atleast be registered so it is noticed by them?
Sorry i am kinda of confused on the papers deal there are pedigree papers and papers to register your dogs with a certain group right?
The one guy that breeds around here was the one who told us about that site when we got our pit puppy that was a rescue. I just wanted to try to help out but evidently i dont know anything   oh well I guess i will learn in time coming to this site.

First let me say that im not attacking you. I just dont think highly of "fly by night" registries. I dont think your question is stupid and I dont think youre stupid.

When pioneering a breed for "pure bred" status, it is important to have a working pedigree. This is to certify that your dog is from pure stock. Not a flawless system but the best we have.

They developed the dogs, kept a working registry/ancestry of the dogs they bred and made their own registry, WHERE THERE PREVIOUSLY WASNT ONE. When that became established on a long enough time line and, in theory, untainted, other registries would reconize the dogs as a wholy separate and pure breed. Again, not a flawless system.

Here you are making a distinction where there isnt one. True you can order a 4 or 7 gen pedigree separately, but these are what the registry papers are based on.
Help me out anyone if ive missed something. |

thanks for answering the questions i always liked studying the pure breeds but never really got into dealing with the papers..The only papers i did hear of before were pedigree papers but then the guy that told us about that site and the other papers i guess he is the one who got me all confused...  ..oh well will just have to pay more attention on here... I have another question a friend of mine has a female pit with papers (pedigree papers) but the pit they bred her with didnt but definitly a pit (no mix at all) could they make a pedigree paper for the puppies even though they only know the mothers history?...thats pry a stupid question but thought i would ask. Thanks for your help with trying to get me to understand the papers thing....I think i should just open another post so i dont go past sure's question..sorry sure. |
