getting fur off blankets and things

So, I bought some cheap blankets to cover the couch and Nala's favorite chair to try to protect the furniture a bit. I washed them for the first time yesterday thinking they would come out all nice and clean. But the fur didn't all come off, even though they smell all fresh and clean. The same thing happens with the dog beds, even though I did try to vacuum them before washing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would change the type of blankets you are using, there are som material that the hair just wont come off. I like trhows that are made out of material like a sheet, that kind of cotton

I use regular sheets as well.

Like throw rugs, and wool blankets, the fur and hair just won't come off..
You can try using packing tape. Wrap it around your hand, Sticky side out, and run your hand all over them before washing. That should help some as well.

Thanks all. I'm thinking since they will only lie on them and get them all furry again, I will just pretend I don't notice the fur when they come out of the washer. When these blankets get destroyed, I will use regular sheets next.

I bought a lighter color for where Bonnie sleeps and a darker one for Nala so the fur wouldn't show as much. Naturally, Bonnie sheds what little dark fur she has onto her light blanket and Nala sheds the white fur from her tummy on the dark one. Just goes to show that you should have solid-colored dogs.

We use old comforters and bed spreads in our dog's cages. ginger loves ot chew and she won't chew those. sometimes we'll just og to good will and get a couple of 5$ ones. it works really well and the hair doesn't stick, it goes under the blanket so I can jsut shake them out when i scrub the cages.

We used to use an old comforter on the couch, but Nala ate it. Silly goat dog. Now the furniture is fenced off when no one is home, so we can monitor if she tries to eat the new blankies.

I love this sign that someone had posted at their front door. "The dog lives here and you don't. If you don't want to get fur on your clothes please don't sit on the furniture."
Fortunately Duke is the same color as our carpet and Freckles, thought he appears white and reddish brown actually sheds light brown. Only problem is it's pretty gross to vacuum the carpet with a clear canister vac. Then you see how much they have shed.
I saw a show once that featured a dog that loved to be vacuumed. He just rolled on his back while being vacuumed. Wish my boys would allow that.

My kittens LOVE the shop vac!! They come running when I turn iton, and the rub all up against the container until I take the hose and "vaccume" them....its sooo weird!

It's my husband who doesn't like the fur. He thinks it's gross. Since he lives there, too, I try to humor him. We used to not allow the dogs on the furniture, but when we got Bonnie, he said it was okay. He didn't have to tell me twice! I love cuddling with her while I watch TV. I don't think my husband has sat on the couch since then, though....

Gray will hide just about any coat color pretty well We have one white dog, one mostly black dog, one red dog, and two tan dogs, so there isn't much that is safe here other than that. We have a plaid, dog fur covered comforter over our sofa, and just pull it off when someone wants to sit there and not get furred on. Of course, Haley thinks it's there for her to cover up with, and she climbs up, pulls the blanket up and slithers under, like it's a tent! Cute, but not nice when you're trying to keep the hair OFF the couch.

Harley, my grandmothers dashound does the same thing!! He thinks the Covers are on the couch for HIS conveniance! So he gets on the couch, pulls the sheet down over him and squirms untilhe's got a nice little nest to sleep in!

we have an afgan over the top of our couch and snowball will crawl up there and wiggle under it to sleep. it's so funny.
