Best treatment of ICK?

Hey.. I posted before about the strange behavior of my molly rubbing on the cave in the tank.
Well... when i woke up this morning one of the other fish (the bleeding heart) now has those little white spots all over her back end and on her top fin... she is the only one with these on her.

I went to wal-mart and bought something called "ICK CLEAR" and am not sure how much i should put in the tank and if it will really work?

it says to add a whole tablter or a 1/2 tablet for smaller fish... the bleeding heart is kind of small and i have no clue how much of the tablet i should put in.

Any advice would be great .. i will wait for responses before i put the stuff in.

i have no experience with the tablets, but usually they will tell you what exactly to do on the package......that should fix the problem..i use a prodct called "nox-ich" and its in a blue bottle....turns your water a cool green/blue color for a few hours and always works greta for me.

i would first try turning the temp up in your tank a bit....sometimes this helps!

you can add a lil aquarium salt as well!!!

I've heard that ick, which is a parasite, has trouble spreading in water above 80* F. I can't say for sure that's true or not, but that's why the other poster recommended turning the temp up. Also, it won't do much for the fish that are already sick.

Your best bet is to follow the directions on the package. If you have scaleless fish, they will be very susceptible to whatever medicine you put in the water, and would require half doses.

If your filter media contains carbon and it's over a few weeks old, then you should be fine leaving it in there. If you don't have any carbon at all in your filter, leave all the media in there as well. If you have new carbon in your filter, remove just the carbon if possible. If you have new carbon and can't remove it w/o removing the rest of the media, I'd switch to the salt ich treatment (assuming you don't have any salt sensitive fish). The point is, you should not remove all of your filter media because you will be removing all your beneficial bacteria and essentiall un-cycling your tank.

I use the interpet treatments.

iv never heard of a tablet form so ask your LFS also on the effectiveness of the treatment compared to other treatments for white spot (ick).

My oscar had the same thing. I also went to walmart. I also got the same thing. Put the whole tablet in wait a day and half IT CURED MY OSCAR Dont be scared just add one whole tablet

The filter will remove the medicin from the water the first tab i put in didnt have any effect at all because i forgot to take the filter out

Yea as above rasing water temp to 84 kills the bacteria

I also remember reading that raising the temperature speeds up the egg into the free swimming stage. The free swimming stage is where the ich is actually killed by the meds. The white spots are actually eggs and the water is usually filled with free swimmers invisible to the eyes! Take care not to over-medicate, as this will kill you fish.
