I have 4 dogs and having a pony in the pasture is new to them. One of them got kicked in the head and now never tries to get into the pasture. I have one dog who is scared to even look at Smokey LOL but i have two dogs that like to go into the pasture and eat the horse poop. One gets weird if smokey goes up to him while he is eating, kind of circles the pony and barks and shows his teeth. I dont' think he would ever bite him. But I have a Bull Mastiff that will eat anything, just recently ate one of my chickens....whole think, bones, beak, feathers and all. She goes in and eats poop too. I am concerned of what she would do if Smokey went up to her while she was eating. I try to keep the pasture cleaned up, I toss the poop in the field behind our pasture, but I am still concerned. I don't know if Maggie (My dog) would or could take down Smokey. I don't know what to do or if any of you have ever had a dog that has gotten ornery with their pony or horse.

Horses can do alot of damage to dogs and visa versa. I highly reccommend you keep the dogs away. I use an electric fence around the bottom of my pastures about a foot off the ground...That keeps them out the majority of the time.
Smokey my ACD male got kicked in the head the other day and crushed a part of his skull about the size of a silver dollar....he's ok, but it could have been much worse.

I've had stray dogs (and neighbors dogs) take down on of my foals. We had to euthanize due to the severityof the damange caused by the dogs. SO yes I would be concerned about it.

believe it or not, my spastic horse likes dogs, & only kicks if they pull her tail or bite her legs, she doesnt care if they walk under her or in peppers case, sleep next 2 her, so i dont usually get reall worried, but she did once kick a dog in the head, but thankfully he was ok & learnt his lesson. Now, dod & horse are friends again. But i never let dogs be around my horse wen im not there. they are always tied up.
