Danni has been chewing Parkers collar completely off. I let them out and he comes back in with no collar. When I go to see where it is I found it in the yard completly chewed up. This has happened three times. I wasn't sure if she was doing it or if he was somehow, but I finally caught her in the act. So any suggestions on how to stop this. Maybe I need a more indistructable one. Do any of you know a good collar that she wouldn't be able to chew. He wears the regular nylon type now. I don't think leather would work. She likes to chew anything leather. Many of my shoes have died by her mouth. I don't know what to do about this collar thing though. Little buggar seems to love them.

You could try a thicker collar. You can get them at Petsmart

http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777682&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025650&bmUID=1101263926705

You could also try a harness. My uncle sometimes walks his dog with a harness. For the dog tags he was them on a detachable key ring.

Like this one: http://www.organizes-it.com/porootschain.php

He has the tags on the bottom part and he has two of the tops so he puts one top on the harness and the other on the collar so when he's using the harness he just detaches the bottom from the collar and clips it on to the harness.

I like lupine collars and they seem to be really durable...although I've never had a dog try to chew up a collar so I don't know how well they hold up with chewing but they are guaranteed "even if chewed" by the company that makes them.

are they playing and wrestling with each others necks when it starts? maybe that has something to do with it.

I wouldn't let them together with collars on if thats whats going to happen. their teeth could get hung up in it and then end up strangling each other. Just as a safety measure I'd take it off when their alone together.

Our dogs would do that also, so we switched to choke chain collars.

I don't think choke chain collars would be a good idea. If she starts pulling on the collar trying to get it off she could do some damage.

LOL... Seems like it Sams!!!

Chokers are more dangerous on dogs left unattended for any length of time to roam than regular collars... I'd keep NO collars while dogs are outside playing together or keep dogs separate... I've heard tooo many accident stories even just on THIS board in the recent months to leave them on when there is obviously an issue with them... JMO

I agree. When my dogs are home with us. they are free (meaning no collars, harness, or leashes) But when we are gone. htey are in their separate kennels. With their collars on just in case they are to get out.
If two dogs are kenneled together, I leave them off.

I'm making an apointment to have Smokey rechecked for his micro chip with the new GPS system and having him tattooed.

Apparently dogs are being stolen around here, and I'm not taking any more chances. I've already lost one awsome dog, and I'm not about to loose anymore.
