possum!

We've been having a possum visit our porch for the past week, probably because I've been setting the trash can outside at night, since Annie has developed a very bad habit of dumping it over in the house while I'm not watching. Well, Annie saw it for the first time last night and was mesmerized, she stood rigid and as still as she could, just watching it as it knocked over the trash can and proceeded to eat the trash, then she finally got curious and stuck her nose down by his through the sliding glass door( she was of course inside, he was out), and the possum finally noticed her and scurried off. Well, she was so excited she wouldn't leave that door all night. Well, a few minutes ago, I heard the scariest noise coming from the other room and it took me a minute to realize it was coming from Annie! She was snarling and i could hear her slathering jaws, and I heard her hit the sliding glass door..well...i went tearing out of my room so fast to see what was going on, because I have NEVER heard anything other than a bark come out of that dog...apparently we had another possum visit, but she made sure he didn't make it to the trash can tonight. That poor possum was so scared, instead of just fleeing the porch and going past the dog on the other side of the glass, he attemped to climb a lawn chair and air conditioning unit to escape, leaving the lawn chair knocked across the patio. Well, Annie was quiet by the time I made it to the door and she was happily boucing up and down, jumping on the door and wagging her tail like "boy I sure showed him mom!"So I said "Did you get that old possum Annie?" and she looked up at me like, "yep..ok..now open the door and i'll finish him!",,of course, she didn;t get to go out..she just got chuckled at and a pat on the head. Had to share what a silly dog I have...not dog agressive, loves cats, is quite respectful to horses and hates possums!

lol I sympathize with the opossum situation Rayvhel is now sporting a E collar thanks to the two stitches she has in her nose. Bad move on opposums part he is resting in piece shall we say. Ray literally bull rushed me and broke the screen door to get at that s**k! luckily for her she's got her rabies shots and mister opposum was sent out for tests and was negative. what silly silly doggies we have!

I psoted a thread about one I caught Sunday night.... He was HUGE!!!!
Smokey went up to the live trap I caught him in, and he wanted to fight Smokey!!!

We had a time moving the cage. I didn't have the heart to kill him, So we loaded th trap up in the back of the truck and took him WAY down a country road and let him go. He didn't run either. I stomped at him and said "shoo!" and he skirried off.....

oh man, I dont want ot here these stories, especially sugars, sine we think that is what is coming in our dog door. but since we put away the cat food now, it hasnt been badk, but it ruinded the door, now we have big gaps in the rubber flaps and it needs to be replaced.

We don't have possums but we do have Squirells...(sp?)... Honijade every morning played a game with the resident squirel... She would RUN out the front door while squirel (bob) jumped on our front fence...he would scale the neighbors fence till he got accrossed from our BIG pine tree...Honijade hot on his tail (on the ground) he would then take a flying leap off the fence to the tree and climb up a ways...turn around and proceed to yell at her... WELL...the other day...game went as usual...Bob was running along the neighbor's fence but HJ was no longer following him...instead she was running through the yard and around that big pine tree... Bob took that flying leap I told you about and so did HJ...she snatched the little guy right out of the air...chomping down on him hard... she was Sooooo proud of herself...I screemed...she dropped him...then went to pick him up again...I screemed AGAIN this time for fear that HJ would lose a nose in the altercation... She didn't...only sustained a TEENY scratch. But poor Bob sustained mortal wounds and now rests in peace... We had been telling him to quit playing that game with HJ but to no avail... His friend watched the whole ordeal...and STILL comes into the yard... HJ is now even more adamant to go out and take on the squirels in our front yard when they appear...NOW I give them ample warning to get out of there...BEFORE I let her out to go "hunting"... Talk about crazy dogs... I almost wish I never taught her to play with a flirt pole...

well our critter paid us another visit this morning which we think is a possum, Hubby has explicit instructions after feedng Midas to put his bowl of cat food away because Midas is sick we are feeding lots of small meals, so before I left work this mornig I went to feed Midas again, looked for his bowl in the frig, not there, sink, not there, I look outside and there it is out in the yard, so the critter struck again because hubby didnt put the food away. I said listen someone posted this week how their dog into it with a possum and we dont want that to happen with jake and wylie, and i dont want to have to quarantine them since Wylies attack this summer from a pack of coyote, she to be quarantine for 3 weeks. so he finally agreed to get a trap

luckily i didn't really have to quarantine Ray cuz we had th dead opposum to test and luckily he was negative but i had ta keep her in or near the house away from other animals for a few days till the results come back. But lemme tell ya Honeybear them there critters is nasty!! lol That little s**k went toe to toe with my dog like he was a dang mountain lion! So be carefull, also a good chance it's a racoon which can also be viscous if provoked!

We had a possum in the house once. Scared the you know what out of me. I tried scarring it off but itwouldent go so I tried to shoot it with my hubby paint ball gun (didnt want to be mean but I had a newborn in the hosue and couldent get the darn thing out) any way we then had a green chair in the house and that scared him off. It was huge! Actually was a female cause my landlord found a nest of the babies under the house with mamma! I get the whillies just thinking about it!

A racoon can put a pretty severe hurting on a dog. They are little bad you-know-whats!

When I lived in san antonio I had to rush more than one dog to the vet b/c of RATTLESNAKES!!! The offending snakes never lived to see another day however. Its bad news! I will never live there again, there are scorpions and rattlers like other places have roaches. The boar hunting is good!
