I was brousing some sites, just to see what's out there, who's breeding what lines, ext..... I found some sites that are questionable. Tell me what you think.

This one I found that the dogs look nice! but some of the photos bothered me. One, the chains they use on some of the dogs look HUGE!! doesn't that constitute neck problems? ANd the photo with the guy holding the dog next to another dogs kennel, labled "play time". Those dogs look like they are fixing to tear into each other.....just didn't give me the right feeling about them. They didn't have any info on them either....

The most exotic??? "We've been breeding for over 15 years. That makes us Professionals." I highly disagree with this statement. Even someone thats been breeding over 30 years, doesn't mean they are doing it right, know everything.....SOme very nice looking dogs, but no info.....and what have their dogs done to prove themselves?? Other than color?

If I ever get a pit, it will come from these people. OMG> I've never seen a more beautiful dog!! Rebel JO is awsom!!!!
They look like they have their stuff together, obviously very family oriented and work together. IMO this is how a breeder should be. |

There's a good reason you haven't seen them in this color before - APBTs do not come merle. Also, responsible breeders wouldn't breed merle dogs (who are supposedly not possibly pure anyway - I say supposedly because I've not done enough research on it to know). There are many health problems associated with merles. For that matter, reponsible breeders wouldn't breed specifically for any color. They are after people's money - plain and simple. |

Yeah those 1st two are bybs. Merles...lol, dont stay away from them.
Victorino's is a good kennel/breeder. I've sent a few people there, they're reputable and responsible breeders.
This is also another really good one

Thats what I always thought but I wasn't positive so I didn't want to make that statement without researching it first. I never saw that color before even though I have heard of it. Thats sad that people still breed them even though they have health problems.

Are you sure about blue Merles? I was on a site the other day and it seems that alot of breeders are striving to get that colour. Personally the puppy I seen on that site looked like half Aussie Blue Cattle!!! Still cute though. |

From what I understand, merle of any color (blue, red, etc) is not a natural APBT color, and is only made possible by introducing another breed into one's breeding program. I believe merles often are plauged by many of the same problems as albinos, such as deafness, blindness, immune deficiencies, etc. Just because many breeders strive for this color does not mean they are breeding to breed standard, and definitely does not mean they are concerned with their dogs' health. They are striving for this color because it is *rare* (in other words no responsible breeder breeds them and the general public is ignorant to the reason why) and therefore they can make more money off the pups. Money is their only motivation. |

I myself am sure because NO responsible breeder breed/strive for a certain color. They strive to produce a dog as close to the standard as possible with a true temperament and great health. I think blue merles are prone to the most health problems, not saying the other variations aren't. The color was introduced by breeding them with Catahoulas.
Lots of breeders strive for blue, red, pure white, albino, size, aggression, amoung other stupid traits, that doesn't make it a good thing. It makes them irresponsible and usually after something "rare" to peddle or something they like.
