Burnt out coat

Does anyone have any tips on how to treat a burnt out coat? Please share if you do. Thx:)

I don;t know what a burnt out coat is...do you mean like damage due to sunbleaching?

I do mean damage, the coat is dry, hard and brittle. I think its from cheap dog food and not being fed properly. If you feed a dog "good" dog food with too much protien it will get a burnt out coat. But also if you don't feed them right, cheap dog food and they don't get enough nutrients the same thing kind of happens. Its hard, brittle, dry and dull looking. Its actually starting to look better, but their is the one section thats still a little brittle. I know it takes time to get them back into shape and recondition it, but I was wondering if their are any methods that can be used to help out for the skin/coat. Today it actually looks and feels real good, this weekend it flaked out from that section and I think all the dead and decayed cells were just making their move out..lol But it still needs a little help.

You can get this supplement called Grizzly Salmon Oil it has Omega 3 & 6 in it. I use it on my dogs food and their coats are all very shiny and healthy you will notice the difference in a matter of weeks. I get the big gallon jug of it that comes with a pump. You can order it from the DR.s Foster & Smith catalog and you can also get it at Pet Smart. (It's cheaper through Drs Fosters & Smith.)

Ah ,similar to horses. Since my dog is inside, I have no idea for dogs. But with horses, of course put them on a proper diet, and we add corn oil to the food(which of course wouldn't be good for most dogs especially mine with the corn allergy, but Gina's suggestion sounds great), and I always use this wonderful coat moisturizer called Healthy Hair. I don't know if it can be used on dogs, since horses don't really lick themselves, I don;t have to worry about them ingesting it. I know it's a lanolin and oil mixture though, and it works wonders.

I buy the 34 oz jug and it runs around $24.00 but it last for quite a while.

Would baby oil possibly work/be okay to put on the dog's coat? Just a thought.

Yeah you can use baby oilk on their coat, really good at shows to get them shiny.
