We went to see Max today at the vet doggie daycare. My Dh's MIL is on a ten day vacation and is boarding Max. He is a 14 year old schnauzer. He has had his ups and downs and he is down now. They had him sedated and on I.V. They don't think he's going to pull thru. He is just getting old, poor boy He looked so pitiful. Just laying there. I think he knew we were there. He was doing this very faint his noise. the same thing sasha does but louder when she may need to go out. Then before we left, he was making slightly louder noises. aAs if saying he really knew we were there. God this is sooo sad. We are hoping he can hold on until MIl gets back. Max is all she has at her house. Please put a pray in that he can hold on a little while longer. If not that he passes peacefully. I had to get on my dh's case and make him go. I am not a crier, but I was crying, telling him he should not be worrying about feeling sad and about himself. This dog has been there thru and thru and needs the respect and should be visited. He was glad we went.

Thanks guys, this little dog is her only house companion since FIL had passed. We think it would be good to get another dog later, but I don't know what she will say. She always complains about how expensive of a dog he is, and he is. I can only imagine the extra cost she is going to come back too. When she only though he was being boarded. But he is also being boarded by his vet, which works out perfectly. She has been caring for Max for a long time. I hope he turns around, but if not at least till she can see him once more alive. Crying or Very sad

Aw, poor little guy, that just breaks my heart!!! Crying or Very sad

He is definitely in my prayers...bless his heart!

I would have to ask the same question Monster did, is there a way that you could bring him home with you so he can at least be in a comfortable, home-like environment during this difficult time of his life? I just hate to think that he is probably scared and lonely there, and given his condition, I think a home-like environment might really help to put him at a little more ease!?

My prayers to your MIL as well!

Everyone has to work. There is no way I can bring him to my place. He is not used to other dogs. The only other dog he puts up with is his vets schnauzer. I did think of it too. He was needing introvenous care and all.
But good news is at least yesterday he was coming around. Vet says he may have caught some bug and being he is old, it knocked him flat out. Yesterday he got up and tried to follow my SIL. I don't know what will come of all this, but his time seems very short. If he is walking when him mom comes home then I can't see her ending anything just yet. I'll let you know he's doing tonight.

She comes home today. Max has really come back to life. Vet thinks it was some viral thing and age that knock him off his rocker. MIL will be happy she has him to come home too.

Thanks, we all are too. My MIL usually seems tough as a cookie, but Dh said she sounded like she wanted to cry on the phone when he was telling her about the day we saw him. It looked so bleak. The vet really thought he may go, thats why she called his sister. But he's better. Thanks.
