The following email has come to me via a website. Please members, help if you can. Hundreds of little lives depend on people like you.

The following message is from Jennifer Fearing with EARS, regarding fostering and adopting animals at the shelter in Bartow:

********************************************************************
Dear Florida rescuers -
On Monday we received the official word that the animals in our care (still more than 250) can be released to rescue groups willing to foster them through at least September 13th (the agreed upon 30-day window for claiming animals after a disaster) and then place them in forever homes.

We are now in the process of placing a handful of specific animals that volunteers have been caring for and have said they want to "foster to adopt," but we will have many more dogs and cats in need of rescue. We and the animals need your help!

UAN will be providing each foster home with any necessary medical supplies, equipment and food that the animals will need through Sept 13th. All the animals have been microchipped and will come with lifetime PetTrac registrations. Additionally, UAN will pay up to $50 toward the spay/neuter of each of these animals (details will be available on our website by Sept 13th).

We have posted a page of photos with most of the lost animals in our care, regardless of whether they have been fostered already or not. This page is located on our website at http://www.uan.org/ears/bartow/index.html and will stay there through the Sept 13th deadline. At that time all unclaimed animals will be adoptable and we are working with Petfinder.com to create a special Hurricane Charley disaster animals section that will go live that day so that any animal you have in rescue will get a lot of attention. We are committed to finding these wonderful animals loving permanent homes.

Right now we are limiting our rescue groups to Florida-based organizations so that the animals are not displaced too far before the September 13th deadline.

If any Florida-based rescue group sees a dog or dog(s) they would be willing to foster through at least Sept 13th and then place in forever homes, please email Diane Albers of the Florida Association of Kennel Clubs, Inc. working in conjunction with the American Kennel Club, who is assisting UAN with dog rescue efforts from this shelter at dja0218@aol.com with "Bartow Dog Rescue" in the subject line. Please include your name, organization, contact information and the # and type of animals (e.g. breed, size, etc.) you are willing to foster/rescue.

If you represent a Florida-based cat rescue organization, please email UAN directly at info@uan.org with "Bartow Cat Rescue" in the subject line. Please include your name, organization, contact information and the # and type of animals (e.g. breed, size, etc.) you are willing to foster/rescue.

We are sure you share our desire to get these animals out of the shelter environment as soon as possible - especially in light of Hurricane Frances' threat. We hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely, Jennifer Fearing
