Another kitten showed up on my door yesterday. Actually a neighbor found it and brought it over..he/she looks really sick, very lethargic, barely responds to stimulus but does hop out of the basket and blanket I set up and prefers the rug...actually went nbr 2 in the litter box last night and I fed her water and some cat formula, which she later barfed up..twice..overnite..I am afraid she's rather sickly and I plan to go into vet today and have a feeling I am going to put her down(expense issue and kitten's seemingly poor health issue)..looks about 3 months old at the most and weighs all of 2-3 pounds..all black with a little spot of white under her neck..just like the one I took in 2 weeks ago and posted about, who by the way is still quarantined and is almost over her really bad respiratory infection and doing quite well..still has slightly runny eyes tho...gained a pound and a half and eats like a pig..that is til I brought this new one in now she's not eating but doesn't seem to object much to her presence..I wonder if she's her mother(spot of hair and all?)...
Anyway like I said 2 weeks ago someone has a sick sense of humor with all these cats showing up..I still miss my 2 I put down in MAY., but plenty of backups inside I dont need anymore LORD.........ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shocked

I am so glad I don't live in an area that has a cat problem....so glad cause I would be in your position and it would break my heart.

You do what you have to do....the kitten is probably so ill that humanely letting her go would be a kind thing.

Sorry to say I took her to the animal shelter and they thought it best to put her down. She just looked too sickly to try and save to put up for adoption. It was much cheaper than regular vet would have cost for exam and euth. and the possible recommended tests, they request that you just make a contribution of your choosing which I did(20.00)..and they do it all very humanely, sedate 1st and then administer, which is different than regular vet which does it all in one shot. Learned something new to that effect today. It was sad but was best for the kitten. I then rushed home at their recommendation to clean the rug and sheets and litter box which was shared with JUNO, the stray still in quarantine, but who had her 1st round of shots 2 days ago..so hope she didnt catch anything, especially if this kitten had a bad disease like distemper or the parvo(?) virus one.

Ok,,what'll it be next week? A racoon???

I'm so sorry about the kitten but you did the most humane thing you could do and at least it didn't suffer being left alone outside.

I might not get the kittens and things but last year I saved 2 baby raccoons!!!! Their mom had just been hit by a car and I came upon them late at night - they were clinging to their mother's body. I wanted to cry it was so sad. I was afraid they'd get hit so I got out of the car and they ran onto someone's yard up a tree but I knew that when I left they'd come back to their mother so I moved her body. That was HORRIBLE...she hadn't been dead long and I covered her with a sheet and picked her up. Didn't want to touch her but she was still warm. At least she was out of the road and that meant even if the babies went back to her they would be out of the road too.

NExt morning the babies weren't in the road or near their mother and later that fall I started to have 2 babies visit my house Surprised and I fed them under they hibernated (bad Mary). Very seldom see 2 raccoons together so I like to think it was the babies.

I know off topic but I had to tell my story

At least she's not suffering anymore. I'm so sad that she had to be put down and I know it's for the best.

Well I'm glad she found you and was humanely euthanized rather than being left to suffer. I'm sorry you've got so much to deal with all the time with so many sickly strays. I can imagine how tough it must be. Glad your other kitten is getting better.

oh dear...what sad stories. disneeworld, that would just break my heart, although it is the most humane thing to do. i am glad i dont have to make choices like that. i have never seen any kittens or cats in my neighborhood except the black cat that lives across the street. he is very sweet...likes to poop in my yard though... Shocked

and marynh...what a bittersweet story. i bet it was the same raccoons.

i love animals so much. i wanted to be a vet, but i couldnt deal with the tragedies. i cant even watch emergency vet on animal planet. Crying or Very sad

I'm sorry about the kitty. Just know that you did the right thing. She's out of pain now and got to be surrounded by love when she died.
