hi
i have a cat, Sooty, i took in knowing she was pregnant (she was hanging around my fiance's shop and had nowhere to go) and have been enjoying her 3 babies, known aroung here as the screaming doodyballs due to their tendency to be quite noisy . they are about 7 weeks old (born may 3rd) . Sooty was a very quiet cat except for her loud purr until the babies starting wandering around the house. now she is always yelling and at first we thought she was just looking for the kittens but it is ridiculous cuz it is this constant weird noise, not a meow and not that little gentle noise she used to make to the babies, i don't know what to make of it. Last night she made kind of an aggresive/angry type noise but i didn't get up to check on her. this morning i found diarhea on the floor in her room in 2 spots and then when i came home this afternoon cleaned her litter their was more diarhea. i checked her out and her nose was dry and she just has not been purring like her usual self. then a little while ago i heard that same aggressive noise from last night and went to check on her and she had one of her babies pinned down! is that a normal part of the weaning process?!
should i bring momma cat to the vet? i'm getting worried:( |

It's always better to play on the safe side. Take momma cat and babies to the vet asap. They should all be checked for fleas, worms, mites, and other health problems if you haven't done so already. They should all be vaccinated as well. It's wonderful that you were able to take them in. It's a lot of work! Here's an intersting site with lots of info:
http://www.kittencare.com/happyhealthy.html
Post pregnancy can activate roundworm and cause diarrhea and the mother can give diarrhea to her babies:
http://www.kittencare.com/askKC_Pregnancy_Birth.html#post_delivery_diarrhea
There are lots of terrific people on this forum with great experience with caring for pregnant cats and kittens. They can give you better insight than I can. Good luck with Sooty and the kittens. Sooty is such a cute name. Is she grey? Have you named the kittens yet or do you plan to have them adopted out? I'd love to see their pics if you have any! |

i'm calling a vet tomorrow - hopefully i can find someone to see Sooty on the later side as i won't be able to leave work early as my boss is out:(
She is named Sooty partially for her color which is dark tiger looking on her legs and tail and white w/ kind of a buff/grey color on her body (everyone says they have never seen a cat this color) and partially cuz my fiance's shop is a chimney shop so they gave her an appropriate name:)
i'm not super computer literate so i'm not sure how to post pics here
but you can check out my fiance's website cuz he has posted pics of them under new house and memorial day pics (they are bigger now though)

Hi. Let us know what the vet says about momma kitty and her kittens. I hope she's okay. I went to the link you posted. However, I didn't know where to find the pictures of the cats. What should we click on, once we are there? |

What a fun site! You 2 are such a cute couple. Congrats on the engagement!
I couldn't resist putting the kitty pics here. I hope they show up. I'm not computer literate either. It took me a long, long, time with wonderful help from one of Chessmind's posts and others to figure this out. We are all s**k for beautiful kitties on this forum!!!
Arrg, the pics are cracked. Oh well, I tried.

sooty's eyes are light blue and in all her pics she looks scary cuz her eyes seem red |

I went back to that site and looked at the kitten pictures. They are so tiny and cute (so are their ears). The kittens all look nice and plump. |

thanks chessmind
there ears make me laugh cuz they look too big for the kitties' heads. i hope to get some newer pics up as now they are running around the house tripping us, trying to climb our legs and attacking everything. they found some gift wrapping ribbon i had (in a bag, in a box - should've known they'd find it ) and unrolled it and got it completely wound around their scratching post - lol. one of them also gives me kisses when i make kissy noises at it. they are so much fun that i am having trouble with the idea of giving them away. i'm just not sure i can handle/afford 4 cats |

thanks everybody it is so nice here
So i went to the vet today and found out that Sooty is 3 or 4 yrs old and 6lbs 7oz (she is so little), everyone thinks she is part siamese.
I didn't know i should bring a stool sample so i have to bring one tomorrow but she has been dewormed and vaccinated (i had been waiting on that stuff due to the babies nursing) and turns out to have some nasty ear mite stuff going on (i feel guilty about that, like i should have known ). they gave me stuff for the diarhea, put stuff in her ears for the mites and convinced me to buy some expensive cat food. i was getting irritated cuz i kept having to explain myself cuz of her having babies and not being fixed. i felt like i needed a sign that said "She was a stray, pregnant when i took her in - i will spay her asap - please stop glaring at me, i thought i was doing a good thing by taking her in.". But i did find everyone to be nice aside from that whole thing, though Sooty is quite upset w/ me due to the car ride and being prodded. they clipped her nails cuz she was scratching her ears after they put stuff in them and made them bleed - poor kitty
hopefully she will feel better tomorrow. i went to friends of animals for a low-cost spay certificate (i spent $190 today w/o even doing that and they said that would be $170 - i can't do that, especially seeing as i have 3 kittens to deal w/ as well. it's only $55 through foa) |

How's Sooty and the kittens doing? It's hard to tell that she's only 6 lbs from looking at her pictures. She's beautiful and so are the babies.
