I have noticed that other poms her age have a lot of fur and are a lot poofier. How do i get my baby pom to be that poofy? Thank you! Should I cut her fur? Would it make it grow healthier and longer? Like human hair?

First off, its probably not a good idea to cut her hair. It will not cause it grow in thicker or healthier like a human's hair. I have a pom and our groomer advised us strongly against cutting her hair. What happens is that thier hair will not grow back to the orginal characteristics it once had. It will not be as soft and may have a slightly different color.
Second off there are two "kinds" of poms. There are your traditional poms that have the hair that stand on end and give the puffy look. There are other poms like my Maya who are called "fox" poms. These poms have more flowing longer hair and do not stand on end.
My sister-in-law breeds poms and one is a traditional pom and the other is a "fox" pom and the last litter was all traditional puffy poms. The last litter half "fox" and half puffy poms. Again its a good chance she's a fox pom.
Talk to a groomer and see what kind of brush would be good to make her hair stand up. We use what's called a grooming rake on Maya. Its designed for double coated long hair dogs. Its goes all the way down to the second coat.
Hope that helps. Here's the link to Maya's dogster page if you want to see what she looks like... http://www.dogster.com/dog_page.php?j=t&i=32047

Prncess, I'm sure when you read the standard for the pom you know what type of coat they should have and what it should look like. I've shown them and groomed them for handlers for years. How old is your pom? When they become teenagers they go through the "uglies" while they loose their puppy coat and it takes time to grow that thick under coat. Also, some owners keep them too well brushed out and in doing so, they don't maintain the fluffy look. I've never met a breeder that totally brushed a pom to the skin except during the shedding period. The poms that never get the standard thick under coats are caused from poor breeding.

being a pom owner myself, i went through the "puppy uglies" stage and it looks as though that is what your pom is going through.

here are a few webpages that talk about it.

I've heard the same, don't cut the hair. they only need bathing and brushing. They are a double coated breed also. So while shedding help rid the coat of the dead hair.
