I have a five month old pitbull. His name is chance. He weights 50 pounds. I have been having this problem with little bumps all over his body that look like hives. They first started about amonth ago when i put his advantage on him. He broke out with hives. I took him straight to the vet. They treated him and the hives still hadn't left. ever since then i have been having a problem with this. the vet says its not mites. and it's not hives. they are little raised spot of hair all over him. and no matter what we bath him in, they won't go away. Now the vet wants to biopsy a few of them and send them away for testing. please help.

Sounds to me like it was an allergic reaction to the Advantage. And since the Advantage drops are supposed to be water-proof//bath-proof, and last at least a month, you might have to just wait for the Advantage to wear off. I'd still have the vet do a biopsy, as that would be better than just guessing. And if it is the Advantage, your vet should be able to suggest other flea/tick preventative that doesn't have the ingrediant that your pup is allergic to. Have you had him since before applying the Advantage? If you just got him a month ago, it might not be the Advantage. It could be an allergy to something else. Also, try not to bathe him too often, as that might just dry out his skin and make it worse.

By the way - this is off-topic, but how big were his parents? 50 lbs at 5 months! Wow! He's going to be huge.

I also believe it is the advantage. I had a dog that lost almost went bald because of this. Wait the 3 months or whatever and don't give it to him again. (In the case that is the problem, of course)

I have the same problem with my 7 month old and I have tried almost everything. The vet has scraped him, sent it off, gave him anti-biotics, different shampoos. I know how frustrating it can be, no vet could really give me an answer. So, I started switching foods, but they all had lamp in them. So, I found one with no lamp and he seems to be doing better. But I do know all of the vets prescribed cephelix as an anti-biotic and if your pup needs relief you can give him benedril. Hope this helps

Hey my friend has pits that are about 9 months and 3 years and they get hives all the time. The vet doesn't know what it is they just say to give them benadryl if the pup is young use children’s strength. Its said to be an allergy to something.

What is it advanTAGE or advanTIX? Advantix is advantage with a twist, its supposed to deter fleas, plus ticks and mosquitos. I know that a lot of dogs have been having allergic reactions to the advantix, such as losing fur where the advantix was administered and getting bumps on their body, so I was just wondering if it was advantix?
