I am a brand new owner of a parkeet. But mom has owned many and is helping me. I have owned my bird for 2 days now and all he does is sit on his food bowl. He moves once in a while. When i talk to him his feathers get all puffed up. My mom has never seen this behavoir so is he scared or sick or something like that. Also is it okay to leave him alone for a while since i will be at school and my mom at work. Please help ASAP because i don't want to wait to long to take him in. Thank you. If you can please email me because i might not be able to to check this board. name the email Parkeet board or something so i know its someone from this board

Hi,I have not been a long time bird owner. If you feel your bird is ill,you should bring him in anyways.

If your bird is going to be alone, leave some calm music for him,or mabey after you know he is ok with his health, get another?

I wish I could help you more, hope your bird is fine.

sending birdie *hugs*

Is he eating, drinking pooping etc?

If he is doing all the above and it looks fine he could just be adjusting to his new home and feeling nervous and insecure. Being alone all day would probably be ok as he learns that his environment isn't going to bite him, also as suggested, music or the TV on quietly will help him to feel less lonely and also get used to human noises.

Hi new bird owner! I think ur new parakeet is just fine. My previous birds used to sit at their food bowl & get all puffy upon excitement or when we spoke to them, when they heard new music or sounds or even our other bird talking to them. Chances are he's fine.. & just adapting...to his new surroundings...Give him time..don't worry...I'd leave a radio on or tv when ur not home. They really like that...I do the same for our 2 parakeets. Good luck! (rideswthewind@yahoo.com)
