Ive had quite a few people ask me why they see so many inbred pitbulls so i will address the issue of inbreeding here. The general public thinks that pitbulls are inbred to make them good guard dogs and human aggression.
If done properly, inbreeding can be a valuable tool to consistently breed consistent dogs. Its no accident that you have an entire litter with similar attitudes, dispositions, and pups that look very similar. The dogs display being bred true to type. Inbreeding does magnify traits so its super important to have dogs with the proper traits. When certain traits are set in, a breeder may find that his dogs lack size or wants to add another trait to his/her line of dogs. This is often referred to as outcrossing to an unrelated dog.
Usually the most people friendly pitbulls that I have been around are the inbred ones and not the scatterbred ones. If the breeder knows what they are doing the dogs turn out great, if not that is a different story. It all comes down to breeding good dogs with good dogs. |

People are not the brightest at time. How does inbreeding make a dog a better guard dog? It would be nice to talk to these people sometime. I wonder what else they have to say, maybe Pit Bulls have locking jaws.
Here is the inbreeding discussions. They are on the old forum.

Something that I find interesting is Tab and Little Tabs DNA comparison. Little Tab is almost Tab's clone DNA wise. He is triple bred off Tab ROM the greatest producer of Jeep's sons.
Tab (1st 5)
CD FF AB DE DD
Little Tab (1st 5)
CD FF AB DD DD
Tab (next 5)
FG CD BB FFAB
Little Tab (next 5)
FG CC BB FF BD
He is a triple bred Tab dog, however so are his littermates but they do not have a profile like this. Little Tab is practically Tab's clone. There DNA profiles 7 out of 10 match tabs(homozygous), and then the other 3 are heterozygous so they are still half of tabs (of course b/c he is the sire). Its pretty amazing. |
