A kennel would work fine, or a enclosed dog run.
As far as going into heat you are right it is twice a year and there is no absolute predetermined time in between heats. Do you know how to determine if a dog is in heat? And why don't you get her fixed so you don't have to worry?

I'm with GinaH on that one. You might want to get her spayed right away. Then when she's in there for that, have them give her a microchip impant. If she gets away and is picked up by A.C. they will scan the chip with your information on it and she will find her way back home. Every 4.5 seconds someone's pet is taken to an animal control. Every hour many Pets whose families couldn't find them are euthanized unneccessarily. Every day only 1 in 5 of the pets that enter animal control agencies will ever be reunited with their families. More Pets die each year as a result of being lost than from all diseases combined. It cost only around $30. It's a small price to pay. Don't just rely on your dog tags. Collars can come off. The recovery Chip is stored permanently under the skin where it cannot be removed, become lost, altered, worn, or unreadable. Then put her in a portable dog run until you can secure your yard better. As long as she keeps getting out, she runs the risk of being hit by a car. Good Luck!

i would recomend a kennel if the chain dont work, a dog will find a way to get out of a yard no matter what... if you dont have plans to breed i would get her fixed.

Surprised Surprised Surprised
THANK YOU to loves-da-pits !!! No one likes to hear these statistics, but they are reality!! Please spay your dog immediately(especially if she's getting out). As far as fence climbing you can use PVC pipe and fasten it to the top of your fence with wire. You run the wire through the pipe and fasten the ends of the wire to the fence on each end. When the dog attemps to climb out they can't get over because the PVC pipe is free rotating and will roll when they place thier feet on it to pull over the fence Wink

The chain works good but pulley set ups are great to give them more yardage. A kennel isn't the best idea, its just a fence smaller than the yard. I'd get her fixed asap. They can come in more than once a year, they can come into silent heat and you won't even know until she turns up pg. There isn't a sure fire way to say how long there is between heats normally it is 6 months, but it can be more or less which obviously means they can come in just once a year or more than 2 times. If she comes in every 4 months thats 3 times a year and a big mess. Altered dogs don't come in and there is no worry.

All of my dog kennels are enclosed so actually they do work great.
It really wouldnt make much since to put a dog that is a climber in a kennel that is not enclosed. Mr. Green

Fix the dog... She'll learn to potty on a chain if it comes down to it (it should if she's not fixed) and regardless of whether or not she's in heat the dog should be watched carefully to make sure she NEVER get's out... Good way to loose your dog to a car or a silly human who's scared to death of a rogue "viscious" APBT... Dead dog if she isn't chained or Kenneled...

Chains give more room than Kennels...and like I said... She'll learn to potty on a chain.

Twice a year with a general (not at all completely trustworthy) rule of 6 months between... But my Askari has already had 3 "heats" and she's just over a year old...

Take responsibility regardless.
