|
|
ok, i have had my lovebird for about 5 months now, and he is about 6 months old. I just want another one and i have a few questions:
Do i have to get opposite sexes? What will happen if i don't?
Will they like eachother?
can i put the newbi in with my original lovebird's cage,(after they're used to eachother) or do i have to buy a whole new cage all togeter so neither of them are territorial over it yet?
Do they have to be the same breed (I don't want them to breed)?
thanks sooo much!!!

Hi, Lovebirds of the same sex can be kept together. I kept all mine together.
If you get a new lovie you will need to keep them seprated for atleast 30days to make sure the new bird has no illnesses.
What i do is place the second cage away from the first cage but not out of sight of the first bird. That way they can still see and hear each other.
After 30days i let them both out together and watch how they get on.
As with all birds you will get some sqaubbling between them but this should be allowed unless blood is drawn then they must be seperated.
Any species of the lovebird family can be kept together.
But as i say if they fight and blood is drawn they must be seperated.
Lovies like to play so plenty of toys will keep them happy.
Hope this helps

No they do not have to be the same breed.. I had peach faced lovebirds in with black masks with no problems.
Its hard to tell the sex of lovebirds unless you get them DNA sexed which personally i don't see the point unless breeding them.
Glad i could be of some help to you. If you ever have more questions feel free to ask, even if you think its something silly. I am here to help

The bigger the cage the happier the birds, Alsong as the spaces between each bar is not too wide as they are very good at escaping hahah..
Here is a picture of my lovies that i used to own until i had to rehome them
this was there cage which they also shared with 3 cockatiels

Hi i think that size cage you mentioned would be too small for 2 lovies and would probably cause them to fight.
I am not saying to get a cage as big as mine as that was a parrot breeding cage and was huge and would be too big for just 2 lovebirds.
A cage for one bird should be large enough for it to be able to stretch its wings fully and flap without touching any of the sides, also the bar spaces should be roughly 3/4" spaces to avoid them escaping..
I think your best bet would be to visit your local pet store and see what they have in and explain that you already have one lovie and thinking of getting another and would like i cage that would house them with plenty of space for them to be able to fly around and play in it aswell as room for there toys.
