Ok, new member, and I'm kind of desperate for information.
Background info:
My cat in an indoor cat, and has gotten out twice in the past week. He was a rescue a year ago when I found him where I was working. He had a clean bill of health when I took him to the vet after I found him, and the vet said he was probably between 3-4 now.
Lately he's been squeaking when I pet his back (in pain, I now realize). This morning I noticed the fur around that spot was matted now and smelled really bad, and had a large bump under it. Like, bigger than his paw.
Tonight I get home and am just looking at it when it starts oozing pus. No really, it OOZED. Probably about a quarter cup worth of pus.
I have a vet appointment for him on Saturday morning - but is it anything I really need to be concerned about? He did get in a little scuffle with the feral cat outside (feral is used loosely - he's the sweetest cat I know, just doesn't like anyone else going for his food).
I have another cat who has a similar spot where his tail meets his back, but it's been there for a few months and never oozed. He's much older, too.
Anyway, any insight is GREATLY appreciated. I love this cat to death and am seriously fretting right now. |

sounds like an abcess. They'll drain it and put him on antibiotics. He might have to wear an E collar for awhile if he worries it.
Hope he's up to date on vaccines. If he's fighting with feral cats he's open to all sort of diseases (don't want to scare you but it's realty).
I'd ask the vet about doing a Snap test in a few weeks to rule out feline leuk. |

It does sound like maybe an abcess. Best of luck at the Vets. I hope everything will be fine.
Welcome to the board. |

| Hi and welcome to Auspet. It's probably an abscess. How is your kitty doing? |
