please help with 2 week old pitbull puppy

u guys i need some help i just bought a 2 week old pitbull puppy fgrom one of my brothers friend the puppies mother dies and out of 9 puppies 3 are still alive i am feeding her baby formula and she drinks it but she also has worms and i found acouple of fleas on her i feel bad because i donno if i should get her any medecine for the worms i also think she is to young to give her a bath please her am new at this am afraid she is gna die on me

Hi, Your best bet is to take this pup to a vet tell them the situation and see what they can do.
At 2 weeks old you should be feeding every 2 hours around the clock aswell as stimulating her to goto the toilet.

A worm burden in such a young puppy can cause serious problems and really without advice from a vet i would not give the pup anything from over the counter in a petstore.

You want to get her wormed ASAP. Worms can be deadly especially in young pups and being so young she needs a lot of nutrition and she won't be getting it being wormy. Give you safeguard (or panacur) about now is the time a lot of breeders give it. You will want to give that to her every 2 weeks until she is 8 weeks old and you have to give it for 3 days in a row but it works great.

She needs to eat at least every 3 hours. I would recommend tube feeding to make sure she gets all she needs. This way you don't have to worry is she eating enough when bottle feeding or if she doesn't want to finish the whole thing. I've found this way works the best to prevent dehydration, malnutrition or even death for orphaned animals. Get some milk replacement powder, baby formula doesn't have what she needs. It is intended for humans, could have stuff that she doesn't need in it too.

I'm surprised that they let so many die. That is very sad. Good luck with your baby.

I wouldnt recommend tube feeding if you have not done it before, This risk of the milk getting into the lungs is alot higher when the tube is placed wrong.

All my girls got wormed a week before mating and then 2 weeks before whelping then the pups where wormed every 2 weeks until they were 12 weeks old, panacur is good to use but do be careful as you may find your pup will get diarreah some do some don't.

Like true said you need to get puppy milk, Lactol, Whelpi as its the closest thing to mothers milk.
Its just like human baby milk but has alot more stuff in it that the puppy needs.

The you can make the milk up and use alsong as its kept in the fridge within 24hours, Do not forget to warm the bottle to body temp before feeing.

Do you know how the mother died, as i do not want to scare you but could have implications on the pups life too, As if the mother died from illness, virus, bacteria chances are the pup may have contracted something from her.

I think its great what your doing most people would have just left them all to die.

well i live in a part of south carolina wich is mostly country theres dogs everywere most of the people here are drug dealers and have there dogs to fight the mother of the puppies died of malnutrition they said she was very skinny and after she had the puppies she died she ate one of them and i guess the others died after they were born thank u guys so much

I am so sorry to hear that, I never figured out why people never looked after and treated animals with the respect they deserve.

How is the little one doing, I hope she is gaining weight and doing well.

as a matter of fact she seems alot more active am tryen my hardest i got lil ids and they have so much fun with her wen she goes and nibbles on their fingers its so cute i love animals and ama do my best to keep her alive

Good point about the tube feeding! Of course you have to do it a first time. If she is taking a bottle ok then I wouldn't worry about it, but sometimes they don't get enough from it or just are too weak/sick. If you are going to tube feed I'd ask a vet or breeder for advice if they know how to do it.

Glad to here she is doing ok. That is such a sad situation for mother and pups. Sickening!!!! I'm glad you are helping her out, you have a big heart.

well shes not drinking out of the bottle but she will drink it out of my hand or a plate wat should i do about the fleas she dosent have many but i have found some can i give her something for that or is she 2 young and wen can i give her a real bath is she old enough yet??

Check with your vet about the flea stuff...there might be something out there you can give her at such a young age...

No bath until you can GUARANTEE that her body temp won't drop...it can be done but you gotta be REALLY careful to make sure they don't get cold...her normal body temp is between 99 and 102...so... You gotta make sure you don't scald either... I'd skip a bath if you could...at least till she's on solid foods...

What I would do is take her to the vet about the fleas...the vet might be willing to bathe her with a puppy safe flea med...in the meantime you can make sure they're not going to come back by de-fleaing your house... At the vet they can make sure she's warm enough but not too hot and get rid of the fleas if they are compromising her system (which they likely would do in any ammount)...

It's great that she's doing well though... Pupppy's can go downhill fast though.
