OK. I'll admit that I have been being a big butt at the dog park recently by trying to mount every other dog I meet. I just want to show them that I am the top dog. We'll this has been irritating dad but I just can't stop.
Then last weekend dad pulled a trick on me. Five years ago when I was trained to actually obey commands the trainer used to get my attention by shaking a rattle can partially filled with pennies. I knew that when I heard that sound that 1. I must have done something wrong, or 2. I was not paying attention. Anyway, I knew I had to sit and pay attention and wait for further instructions.
Now Saturday morning we were in the kitchen and I knew we were heading for the park. Boy was I excited at the thought of dominating all of those other dogs, especially the really big ones.
Suddenly, from out of nowhere, I heard that rattle that I have not heard in five years. And before I knew what I was doing my butt was on the floor.
At the park, everytime I spotted a new target I would hear that rattle and I would sit and look at dad for instructions. He was totally ruining all of my fun and that rattle was getting very irritating.
A bit later I was having fun splashing in a big mud puddle when the biggest Great Dane you have ever seen splashed in with me. Of course I could not resist and when I tried to climb up off goes that rattle and I had to sit in 12" of muddy water. Dad made me sit there until all of the other dogs had run off to play.
You know, I think the only way I can avoid having to hear that *^%$#@ rattle is to give up my hobby of trying to climb up on other dogs. Guess I'll just have to enjoy rolling in the mud puddles from now on.

| He was progressing to try to dominate any and every dog he would meet and he would ignore my vocal commands to stop and sit. It just got embarrassing pulling him off other peoples dog and apologizing for the rude behavior. I was really affraid that eventually the other dog would violently object and a real fight would ensue so I was determined to try to put a stop to it. Looks like that rattle can will do the trick. |
