Hi all Im angels mother. and as she said we have a new addition to the family, i'll enclose a picci..
just after some advice, iv layed some special wee wee and poo mats that are made for toilet training, the problem is that he didnt venture from his bed to poo and wee , I had to wash all his bedding this morning..
Any advice on what I should do, the basket he is in isnt hard to get out of.I was wondering maybe because its dark that thats why he wont venture out. Shall I get a night light so he can see..
Whats your thoughts..
Heres a picci of him sleeping..He has settled in really well..

he is adorable! I think at that age, he may be too young for pad training and you should go with crate training. Rule of thumb is they can only hold it for hour hour per their month of age, he looks to be about 8 weeks, so thats only 2 hours. Think of when you had your daughter, you need to get up and do those night time potty runs. and for the day time for that manner. They need to be in a kennel only as big as they can turn around. They dont like to soil their bed, so thats why you keep the kennel small. You can gett a bigger one, but build a wall tomake it smaller. When he begins to cry let him outside and let him do this thing then praise the heck out of him. Oh he may also start crying when you first kennel him, but let him cry, he needsto work thru that
good luck

Yes, he has no idea that he is supposed to go on the pads. Personally, I wouldn't train him to the pads at all - you eventually want him to go outside, so the easiest thing to do in the long run is to train him to go outside.
As honeybears said, get a crate that is just big enough for him to stand up in and turn around and lie down. No bigger. Take him out whenever he cries (except if you just put him in). Take him immediately outside on a leash and stand with him and tell him something like "go potty" or "get busy." Repeat it while he is going and tell him what a good boy he is. Then bring him inside and put him back in his crate. Repeat every couple of hours.
As he gets older, he will be able to hold it for longer and longer. You are in for some sleepless nights for the next month or so, but it will all be worth it in the end.
I have a great link about housetraining, but it's at work, so I will try to remember to post it tomorrow. |

Thanks for all the tips for us. Umm he is doing much better now. He knows when we take him outside it means to to a wee or poo. He is still doing some on the carpet, so we have to watch him very carefully and make sure that we take him out when he starts to sniff around. |
