Hi,
My 4 yr old cat ate pieces of a White Lily Plant we're trying to grow. Usually it sup on our water cooler- but for some reason, my husband took it down & put it on our kithcen table.
We did not know that Lily Flowers were TOXIC to cats...other wise it would not have been in our house to begin with.
Anyway, Yesturday morning, I found a lot of Vomit around the house. One batch actually had the leaves in them (from the stem).
He was throwing up all day (I was at work, but came home at lunch to him vomiting and seeing vomit aroudn the house).
He was alert, seemed OK (other then the vomiting) and ate 2 treats.
I called ASPCA (Poison Control who recommended getthing him to my Vet ASAP....etc). We took him over at 3pm.
He was sedated (I assume b/c of the IV) and resting with fluids as suggested by Poison Control.
Checked on him this morning.
Vet said He was "Responsive and there had been NO VOMIT Since we dropped him off yesturday at 3pm...so that was 18 hours later)
She said the blood work came in- His Kidneys looked to be OK, but she will recheck the blood work & let me know tomorrow.
I HOPE HE IS OK! I am hoping we caught it in time...
I am absolutly devestaed, as he is my Love, my buddy- and I can't believe this happened....it could have been prevented (if we only knew).
Anyway....Do u know about the Lily's and the poisoning effects?
Think my kitty will be OK??
Write back, PLease!!!!!
Thanks for listening...and for your info.
~Debbie

Sorry about your kitty! I hope everything is okay. Your vet should be able to tell you whether there will be lasting effects from it, I would think. You did a good thing by taking him in right away. You're a good meowmy!

Sounds to me that our Kitty will come out of this just fine. Cats have a pretty good way of expelling things that are naturally toxic such as plants and things. Sounds like he vomited most of the plant up before much got into his system. The Vet probably kept him for observation and to give him the fluids since he vomited so much.

I know how you feel when your little feline buddy gets sick. For one it's like a living nightmare and two it makes it worse if you think it happened because of something you did. My cat just went through a crisis and I was going nuts. But eveything turned out just fine and the same will happen for you as well.

Hi. Sorry this happened. It was great that you took him to the vet. How affected his body will be by consuming the plant, has a lot to do with how much he ate. I honestly think they there should be a law that has warning labels on plants that are harmful to animals and people. I wish him a speedy recovery. It's so hard to see our fur animals sick. Sad Keep us posted.

It does sound like your kitty will be find. That must have been very upsetting. I guess your Vet can tell you about the toxicity of Lily's. I wouldn't have known that either.

Let us know how your kitty is doing.

Thank you everybody for writing back to me, and for your good wishes! Your the best
I calle dmy Vet this morning. She said he seems to be doing well, has not eaten at all since Monday (but is getting the IV drip, medication etc) FYI..He never ever eats when he is there b/c he hates beign there. He is a Big eater at home, that is why he weighs 15 lbs. Laughing
ANYWAY--
I get to pick him up today @ 5pm. He will have been on the IV for a full 48 hrs by that point. Hopefully he is OK and will remain A-OK!
She said the will get the blood test results back tomorrow from the 2nd round of blood work they took. Yesturday was the 1st round and she said all blood work came back OK and kidneys look OK, no damage from toxicity. Your the best YAY!! I have missed him terribly!!! Sad I can't wait to pick him up & have him back home... YAY!!!!! Very Happy
