possible causes for blindness in cats?

My 15 year old cat Boo has been going blind for awhile. I took her to see the vet today and found out she had little hemmorages in her eyes which can be related to high bloodpressure. They did a complete bloodscreen today to find problems-possibly highblood pressure,renal disease, and thyroid problems. I should have the results back tomorrow. The doctor is trying her on high bloodpressure meds. We try this for a month and see if it helps her,but of course no guarantees of anything helping her eyesight. Since her going blind happened gradually, she has adapted pretty well. She finds her "favorote" litter box with no problem, her food and water also. I bought the cats a drinkwell fountain that they all really like, and she has no problem getting into our bed to sleep. I think it is amazing how she can get around like that.

Hi Nano. There are a lot of reasons why a cat can lose their eye sight (disease of the cornea or the lens, glaucoma, trauma to the brain and other diseases that affect the optic nerves). Cats that are blind like your Boo can get along just fine. It's said that often older cats that have lost their hearing, may also start to lose their eye sight. They basically get around from memory. Much like a blind person does. It's just recommended for obvious reasons that sight impaired pets be kept indoors. As long as she receives lot's of love and attention she will be just fine.
