| Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning the gook from my puppies eyes? warm water and a washcloth doesn't seem to do the trick-is there any products that will make the task easier-my Bailey hates me picking at them! |

Has he got long hair around his eyes, is he a long haired pup..If so, maybe try trim the hair very very carefully around the eyes, or if you dont feel confident to do that, take him to a vet or dog groomer to do it...

That's what we do. We just trim around his eyes and then wipe them with a wash cloth. Sometimes his hair gets so long that it builds up and his face stinks. So we have to keep it trimmed so he can not only see, but so his eyes don't get too gross.
My parents have a poodle who has tears and they bought this stuff to put on his eyes with a cotton ball. It works pretty good. I'm not sure what it is called but if you called your vet and asked, they could tell you. |

Several people has told me to go to <http://www.pawpalaceonline.com/angels-eyes-tear-stain-remover-p-2252.html> and purchase angel eyes to help remove the staining under mickey & minny's eyes. Personally, I haven't used it myself because I'm very skeptical about giving my dogs products to improve in beauty. But, the ones whom I spoke to who have used the product says that it works marvelously and that they recommend it to everyone.
Here's another twist though. When I took them to their vet and I asked the pet nurse about angel eyes, he told me that using a bit of peroxide and rubbing it on the brown spots would be good enough. Whose advice to take? I honestly don't know. |

A flea comb works really well for removing "eye boogers." If they're hard and really stuck on you can soften them first with warm water of artificial tears.
Angel Eyes does a great job on tear stains. But it's an antibiotic, and I have a problem with using an antibiotic long term for a purely cosmetic problem.
The old groomer's stand by is a mixture of one part milk of magnesia, one part 20 volumn peroxide, and enough corn starch to make a paste. Apply to stains and let it dry. Rinse well and apply a light conditioner, because peroxide is very drying to the coat.
Something breeders use; Tums. Ask your vet about dosage.
Something new that breeders are trying; contact lense cleaner. The type used to remove protien build up on lenses.
One last thing; if your dog is having a great deal of tearing or discharge from the eye, always check with your vet before using anything to be sure there are no structural abnormalities, like extra eyelashes inside the eye lid, or an infection causing the discharge. |
