Does anyone Feed Cottage Cheese?

Does anyone feed their little dogs Cottage cheese, my sister inlaw mixes a little cottage cheese everyday with the dry dog food. Does anyone know the advantages of this?

Toby (pekapoo) get cottage cheese as a special treat and LOVES it--Lulu (shih tzu) wants nothing to do with it. I'd watch the quantity, since cottage cheese can be surprisingly high in sodium.

Hi Cottage cheese is high in fat and is good for a dog that is not gaining weight very well.

I would keep an eye on how much is fed as too much may cause problems.

My mums rottie gets cottage cheese mixed in with her supper every night as she is not gaining weight and is doing great on it.

I give my dogs a small scoop of cottage cheese ocassionally but I would'nt give it daily unless you have a specific reason for doing so and even then I would only do so temporarily.

I would think it would depend most on how you define 'a little' Our pomeranians get a little canned dog food each day...........but my definition is about 1 tablespoon, two for the old lady who is skinny. I have heard wonderstories about cottage cheese for post whelping females, to restore their coat. Small amounts, tho

When i first brought my mi-ki home, the breeder told me to mix 1tbsp of cottage cheese with 1 tbsp of wet food and feed it to him once or twice a day. My dog really liked it and all it really does is help dogs gain weight and stimulate their appetite a bit. It's easily digestible so there's no problem there. After awhile i ran out of the cottage cheese and wet food but didn't buy more and Mickey went on with his dry food (which he loves as well). About two weeks later i bought more cottage cheese and wet food but when he ate it, he had diarrhea. I'm assuming his body can't handle the cottage cheese anymore *shrugs*

I'm not sure about cottage cheese, but our little shih-poo had a case of giardia and the vet suggested giving her some yogurt to help boost the good bacteria in her intestines. She loves it and we have continued giving her about a tablespoon a day. We use the low fat plain pro biotic astro yogurt. it is 95% lactose free-so not too much to worry about there. I feel that keeping her bacteria flora healthy is beneficial on an every day basis. I am assuming cottage cheese was recommended for the same reason? I would worry about the salt content as previously mentioned-why not try yogurt?

I also heard about yogurt. When my shih-tzu ate it, she was fine. When my mi-ki at it, he threw up three times and was lethargic till the next day...Does anyone know what happened?

was it a low lactose formula? I understand that a lot of dogs are lactose intolerant, so maybe that why she threw up? how much did you give her? I give Bailey a good tablespoon full and she thinks its the greatest treat! She weighs just over 5 pounds now, hope this helps a little.
