Hi,
I've not been on here for a while now due to a lack of computer! It's been interesting reading up on the posts.
My hand reared baby has now just turned 1, it still amazes me after his terrible start in life. We had a very posh cake which we shared with our vet neighbour, and the cats all had a bit of tuna to celebrate! Someone told me I was really sad and pathetic, but I really don't care! It was an important date and we wanted to celebrate it, and had a very good time.
I'm sure many on here have hand reared, and understand what a wonderful thing it is to do. I will do it again and again given the opportunity. I don't love Horatio any more than any of my other gorgeous cats that I have/have had, but we do have a special connection which is unique. On saying that though, he's a bloody pain in the arse at 4.30am when he insists he wants to sleep on my back or round my head whilst purring his head off at top volume! So there we are, he's not THAT cute! |

i've hand reared a kitten before and it's sure alot of work! Not for the faint of heart either. Congrats on all your hard work, but by the sounds of it you already are getting thanked over and over at 4:30am hehe |

Good to hear from you. I'm glad he's doing well.

It was sad or you were sad? Regardless, whoever made that comment is sad and pathetic themselves. I think that's great that you celebrated his birthday. I celebrate my cat's birthdays. |

What a mean thing to say by that someone! I agree with Chessmind. The only sad and pathetic one is that person! Our furkids are part of our families and are treated as such. We always celebrate their b-days! There's nothing wrong with that! I don't usually go all out but I usually get them special treats like a new toy/s or a can of human grade tuna for their birthdays. |

Well I totally agree, and thanks for your replies! My family consists of 2 humans and 4 furries and I think we're all as important as each other! Thankfully, my son feels the same as me about animals and is such a caring person towards them. He has done funerals for our hamster, bees, and won't stand for anyone hurting flies or anything, it's wonderful! If only all parents would teach their children properly .. the other day I saw kids throwing handfuls of stones at ducks and swans, and their father right next to them watching. They were also throwing in cotton wool, and then litter .. of course I had to say something, the little brats! They were older than my son so should know better, but have to blame the parents in a way as they've obviously not taught them to respect all living things.
Grr! That's my rant over with for today! |

Congratulations to you and Happy Birthday to your boy!!! I know exactly what you mean. I hand raised Copper from 2 weeks old and I am always so proud when we go to the vets because the tech told me "bring him in when he's 6 weeks old--if he makes it". Now he's a bouncing 15 pounds (just lost 5!!) and I always remind her. But yeah, he's a pain in the arse too but I love him to pieces.
Uh what about pictures of the birthday boy??? |
