anyone have experience with joint infections?

I went over Wylies xrays last night with the vet, they xrayed both wrists the show equal amount of deteriation. which shouldnt be causing her severe pain on one side and and not the other. They want to see if there is an infection in the joint. In order to do this they have to do a tap, basicly sedate her and draw fluid out of the joint. She is on amoxilcillin right now, but its a mild antiobiotic, from last week that wouldnt neccissarily help a joint infection, they said if we want wait a week to see if she show improvment by keeping her extremely quiet and they want to give her anti-iflammitory called deramx, which is like rymedial, I am gainst that right now , they said she could have sprained it, but they dont find any signs of trauma.

I know in people, a fluid analysis from the joint can tell lots of things. Like if there is an infection and it can be cultured to see what is causing the infection. Also, we look for crystals. Those can be very painful. Can dogs get gout??

The arthritis has probably been there but she just injured or aggrevated the one wrist. I don't think I would want my older dog on rimadyl or deramaxx either.
