Precious got her stitches out yesterday. There's one small spot in the middle that is a little oozy. Clear discharge, and the vet just said to keep it clean.
She's been licking it since they took the stitches and staples out. Do you think thats going to make it worse? She said it shouldn't bother to it for her to lick on it.
But still.... any imput? |

Weeeeellllll....technically if there is still a little open area where its oozing there is a slight chance that she could still introduce infection but I think (just my opinion) that the chance is very small, I would just keep an eye on it, if you see it reddening or darkening or if the oozing gets worse or discoloured (like greenish, yellowish, creamyish or pinkish....I think that covers it ) then Id take her back in.
The other thing to watch for is it will be itchy with hair growing back, even with very fine hair so watch that she doesnt lick it raw or have the occasional 'nibble'.
Glad to hear she is doing well. |

I have always heard that licking is fine and can even help - hence the reason that dogs "lick their wounds." Chewing is another matter entirely and I wouldn't let her do that. Excessive licking would probably also be bad - just try to distract her if she really starts to get into it.
Some people put a t-shirt on the dog and tie a knot on the back to make it fit - you could try that if she would tolerate it and it covers the area. |

She's leaving it alone now. i think she was licking it more because we messed with it and it probably irritated the dickens outta her and made it itch.
I did the t-shirt thing... was TOO funny |

I know personally that stitches healing itch like heck! And she had alot larger area than I did and I wasn't shaved in the area either. Glad to hear she's going better and I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at her busting out of the bathroom. |

oh, I wasn't laughing... I was MAD.
I dont know what on earth got into her!!! she litterally DESTROYED EVERYTHING... I'm guessing she was just SOOO bored. i wouldn't let her do anything. Don't get me wrong. i tried to stimulate her mind and play "mental" games... but she had alot of pent up energy...
I only gave her the pain meds twice I think. She didn't need them.
The felaway pheramone therapy plug in arrived today... a little late if you asked me....
1st one I sent back, it was broken.
Grr. Will keep it though incase something ever happens. |
