Since everyone is sharing their guppy breeding experiences I thought I'd be a little different & post some pics of my Labidochromis caeruleus (aka yellow labs, electric yellows, etc).

My latest batch at a few hours old (since they're mouth brooders, they're technically 3 weeks old, but I go by the time they were released from the mother's mouth).

2nd batch I raised at 13 weeks old. Some of these guys went to the LFS today and the rest are going tomorrow.

One of the 2 runts from the very first batch I raised (too small to sell with their siblings). They're now about 1 3/4" and are going to the LFS tomorrow.

Shemp (father - top) & Larry (mother - bottom)

I'm also expecting my first batch of Melanochromis auratus in a couple more weeks. Here's a pic of Lucy (yellow) and Moe (brown) spawning.

They're adorable! It makes me want yellow labs even more. I remember an lfs had some last year but they must have been even younger than yours because they wer only about 3/4" long and they were also soooooo cute. I love tiny fish!

When they're really small they just get crushed versions of the adult's food (Omega One cichlid flakes, Wardly cichlid flakes & granules, & HBH Cichlid Attack granules) a long with crushed tropical flakes and krill crumbs. Basically I just take a little of everyone's food and grind it all into a powder.

does the pet store buy the fry from you or do you just give them away?

I get $1 each. One store gives me cash plus discounts when I buy supplies (actually, this time I just traded for some pygmy cories) and the other gives me store credit. It's not a whole lot/fish, but it's better than letting my tanks get overrun or feeding the cute little guys to my oscars. Plus I like watching them grow up.

These are actually the first (& so far only) non-guppy fish I've ever bred. I'm really hoping to breed my oscars, but so far they've been a bit bi-polar. Sometimes they're best friends and cleaning off their slate and the next the male is trying to beat up the female. Crazy fish. Rolling Eyes
