Please help - my cat has sores on her belly

Please help - first my cat was urinating everywhere but the litter box. She was put on antibiotics for what the doctor assumed was a urinary infection. Then she started going in her little box. Now I notice that she has 2 areas on her belly where it looks like she has licked herself raw. Its very red there. What is this and how do I clear this up? The vet is very expensive by me. Thanks for any help

Hi and welcome to Auspet. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is have a vet take a look at it and tell you what it is. It could be so many things. I realize it's not cheap to go to the vet. Perhaps there are other vets in your area that may be less expensive or willing to make payments. My vet charges around $40 for an exam.

One tip I can give you is to have any medications/ointments/creams filled at your local pharmacy and not at your vet office. You'll have to call your pharmacy and see if they have whatever it is in stock. This will save you a lot of money.

Only the vet can diagnose the problem on your kitty. Do you have low cost clinics in your area? Perhaps you can ask your local SPCA or feral focus groups for referrals.

as a side note one of my ex boyfriends had a cat that suffered from stress and would lick all her fur off... poor thing, only her head had fur on it at times... we gave her Bach rescue remedy to help with the stress and it worked.

Not sure if your kitty is stressed, but if it is, then it is a suggestion (but I still suggest a vet).

sorry to here about ur kitty, something is bothering her, wether it is stress or whatever else could be going on only the vet would be able to tell to proper treat it...i know ihave said it alot of times but from my own experience and by working at a vet i would highly recommend pet insurance.. vets are not cheap at all.. and yes i would have the meds filled at the local pharmacy or have ur vet write a script and have it filled at PetMeds or some other place like that but i would only do that if ur cat will need the meds for a period of time, like something that is going to have to be filled every month...i have a dog that is on pred. for flea allgeries and its nice to have it on hand whenever he breaks out or else he will lose his fur, and at the vet it is $15 for just 20 pills and when i order it off line it is $11.50 for 100 pills.. which last me a long time but just to give u an idea of how much cheaper it is that way, but if its a med that you need a/s/a/p i would get it at the pharmacy and then have it refilled online...just my opinion
